996 Gbox detent upgrade
Discussion
I would be interested in this too... My 1st gearbox went at 70k and the rebuilt 'box was popping out of 2nd 10k later, when I left the UK. So, unless an oil change and selector 'fiddle' has sorted it, I will be looking at using Mike at Sports and Classic to do their upgrades as it doesn't look like it costs the Earth and should make the 'box stronger.
Interested in what they have to offer in the States though as I will be looking for more power when I come back and running R888's, I suspect the 'box takes quite a hammering, especially on track and with my SSK.

Hello,
I would love to know how this works..? you are using the original spring... the bit that gets weak over time !
All I can think is it must be slightly smaller in diameter than the original shift detent.
This is not how we modify our gearboxes for this common fault.....!
Like they say it will not fix an already damaged gear setup.
Would like to know how much a new dog ring welded on is though as I am sure this comapany used to be powerhaus before they went bust... and it was not any cheaper than a new gear !
I will enquire.

Mike, you mention this is a common problem, I was wondering how often you come across this and what modifications do you make to prevent it, also are we talking about a prevention to a perfectly working gearbox or the cure of an already present fault. Apologies for all the questions but my '04 car has now covered around 36k and I've never experienced the 2nd gear pop out issue so was looking at the Gbox thingy as a possible prevention to future problems. What do you think, are there any possible downsides to fitting this?
Cheers

Mike, its the wheel size that is different, its smaller on the gbox part so apparantly allows for better engagement. I would love to know how this works..? you are using the original spring... the bit that gets weak over time !

Interesting that I have heard 2 cars now who already had this problem, who have not had the issue since fitment of the detent.
Maybe it depends on how often you would be getting the 2nd gear pop out happenning, but it seems it does have some fixing issues as well as preventive.
It would be worth doing even if it was already happenning.
BTW Palm Springs is 47c....
