Just booked my car in at well known porsche dealer in Glasgow, and asked for courtesy car. They said it would have to be under my own insurance, but my insurer won't cover me for courtesy car as i have a classic policy. Porsche dealer not interested in providing vehicle under their insurance. Anyone had this problem?

Increasingly common I'm afraid

i think you've found that your no longer 'cost effective' for them.

Alas, the way of the modern world, where the consumer constantly wants everything cheaper and better, without realising that something has to give.

We demanded cheaper cars and cheaper servicing, so now they let go the specialists in the prior marques, and only keep 996 trained engineers on, with the odd 993 engineer here and they.

Their thought is simple, if you have a 993, you dont have a 996, and if you dont have a new porsche, your less likely to buy another new porsche..

they are just picking their market now...

its a shame that we cant get the same level of service accross the range now ;( given we all pay our service costs.

GL anyway, and watch out, next time they might ask for a donation for lease of their boxster courtesy car :|

We were told that "Most porsche owners have theirs as a second or third car, so courtesy cars aren't in demand often".

So on the third attempt we've found a decent dealer.

AFN Guildford supply a Saab (assuming one is free) and they'll insure it for you as well FOC. The only problem is that the insurance has a £10,000 excess.......

Can't comment on the classic insurance bit, but if you are insured with Norwich Union, they cover a loan car for up to 10 days as often as you like regardless of its type (had a Cayenne when I chucked a wobbler last time my 996 was in the garage and there were no courtesy cars left).

AFN Chiswick(Sorry Porsche Centre west London)also give free Saab courtesy cars I think that that this is just a cheep ploy to make you realise Just how good Porsche cars are. I have one on loan as we speek so far its keyless entry has locked me out twice and when I finaly found then called out Saab asssistance(number not listed with 118118 directory enquiries) A man from the AA turned up and said yes this is a common problem its your local atmospherics so saab make a car that dosent like the air in rural Oxfordshire;-)

poor excuse. You can only drive one car at a time so how do they expect you to get home from the garage ?

Had a Slab from AFN Reading some time ago. I was actually looking forward to the Slab experience, but was bitterly dissapointed. It was only a lowly two litre turbo, but some cars are 'a nice drive', regardless of cubic centimetres. This wasn't. Even the famous Slab seats were uncomfortable, and that kill switch for the instrument lights and all instruments -that was novel....

However, on the strength of a 1600c.c. Audi 80 with wing I borrowed from them, sheep in wolf's clothing...I was so impressed with the build quality, didn't quite do the Victor Kiam bit, but I went and bought an 80 V6 Avant!!

With a host of probs om my C4 ten years ago, I was lent the sales girls VR6, now THAT was fun!!!

I was not expecting a great drive but was not so much dissapointed by the way it drove just the crazy 'keyless' entry what is wrong with a car key?

Lancaster Porsche in Cambridge picked my Boxster up on a trailer from my parents and dropped it back to Peterborough for free during a standard service. Came back as clean as I had ever seen it. All done with the added convenience of contacting me via e-mail as I was out of the country.

Had a minor misfire after the service and they picked it up again and dropped it back, all without quibble. Quite impressed actually.

OK, no courtesy car, but I didn't need one.

I`ve had one of those cretinous scabs from AFN - and it was a bloody automatic as well. I had a terrible shock when approaching a favoutite roundabout on the way home. Terminal understeer of the highest order together with alarming degrees of body roll and wailing, screeching tyres - cheered me up no end!

my other car is a new 9.5-saab estate aero man, key, 250bhp comfy seats and quite impressed really!

911 is faster of course and handles better but is not as comfy for the long journeys and horses for courses..

Yeah I was surprised, I took my Boxster in to Guilford and had to put the Saab onto my insurance unless pay £10k excess! One of the sales blokes said he would sort me out a Cayenne but that was £10k excess.
Luckily the insurance co. didnt charge me extra, but even when my old Elise went in for a service I got an Avensis for the day FOC.

I can add a little more weight to this train of thought as only this week I received through the mail a special offer for all servicing on 996’s and Boxster’s.

In essence if you book either of these two models in for a service with the OPC Colchester whilst it is being serviced you get a credit note foe a very nice restaurant just down the road. Nothing wrong with this of course but as my own 993 is just about to devour in the region of £1400 it’s a shame they can’t extend the offer and what’s more I would be fascinated to hear why they don’t .

Last year though they did come an collect the car and drop it back but fully accept that in life nothing is for nothing

it can be a bit twitchy but when hooked up its fine.

I heard that JC tested one and in 2nd gear 30 -50 mph is out pulled a 996. Its fast but as its not run in yet I dont know.
