Any insurance recommendations for a modified lhd 993 RS ? Seen the L & V recommendations but according to their website they don't insure modified cars. My renewal from Esteem/aon has increased from £560 to £1050 this year and they also want a Tracker and Cat 1 (currently only Porsche Cat 2 fitted) as well. Have there been a lot of thefts of these types ocars in the last year ?

Murray,
I had my old E30 M3 insured with Aon. Initially it was on a classic policy and later it was on an "everyday classic" policy. They said that a cat 2 system was fine but that they wouldn't insure thefts of hi-fi or anything else inside the car, if I remember correctly. Maybe you could negotiate similar terms with them for your RS?
BTW, I was told cat 2 means immobiliser with no alarm, cat 1 is alarm AND immobiliser. Is this what you were thinking?

I would recommended calling L+V. I am only insured on a lowly 944 Turbo
, but they are fine with mods - no extra charge, just keep records in case of a claim so that they can replace like for like. The only exception to this is engine capacity increases.
It is just that their automated webiste cannot generate quotes for modded cars.

Thanks for the replies, i'll give L&V a ring. Just realised last night that the insurance ran out a week ago, luckily the car is at the engineers just now getting some adjustments made and put on a rolling road.

Just got the Porsche immobilser fitted, alarms weigh too much :-)

Hell, this could well be my first post this year so a big 'Hi' to all the folk from way back!!
Amasing how a new motor renews the interest in car related chats but this is also a subject close to my heart after two days negotiating and wasted calls to companies claiming to be happy to cover 'modified' cars. Most will happily cover your Halfords chrome exhaust trim and an extra pair of spotlights but the mere mention of engine performance enhancements sends them into the cold shivers I last felt when insuring a Cosworth at 21!
I can however highly recommend graham Sykes brokers on 0870 444 6319 who were half the price of Adrian Flux for my new modded baby.
The Nash outfit wouldn't touch me due to car's age either.
ps: Dave, sorry I missed you at Dom's last night - small world but at least you know all the bits are nicked from the same source!!
