New 911 sighted in South Africa
Discussion
Monday 22.03.2004 I encountered the Porsche Test Team during their testing in Port Elizabeth, South Africa (Where VW is situated). They were on there way back from testing in Namibia with a full support team including raised off road Cayennes.
The whole range (excluding Gt3 etc.) was there.
The new Carrera with rounded headlights made a very good impression, causing instant traffic jams! The proportions are much the same as the current model, with the rear being almost, but not exactly the same. The new front looks much better, with “old” style separate indicator beautifully integrated into the bumper.
The Cabrio is much the same as above, with some nice detail changes to the interiors.
The Turbo of course looked “the business”. Deeper front end with added aggression and smooth lines and a sound…
If anything the new Porsche 911 can only be described as smooth.
Unfortunenately I could not get any photos for obvious reasons.
Thanks for a great mag. I have been reading it since the beginning, working in Germany, Italy and South Africa where I am now, and it has been a great treasure chest of information in my job as automotive design engineer. I have worked with Ferrari, Jaguar and my last project was designing the REAL Shelby Cobra 427 S/C in conjunction with Shelby America, that was to be built in Cape Town, South Africa It has always helped me to read your Mag to find out what the pulse is, THANKS. Keep up the good work.
