Discussion
has anyone on this site other than lonman had experience of ownership of a gt2? have set the ball in motion for purchase, but would like to know what owning one is like? any probs? all the positive stuff i can work out for myself. it's the negative i'm interested in. currently have a c4s. is the difference in price really worth it?????

the 996 Gt2 come as standard with the revolutionary
Porsche ceramic composite brakes (PCCB) these are non steel brake discs, some owners have had problems with de-lamination after heat generated on track days. The levele of heat generated depends on pads used and driving style..
The long and short of it is, to replace the discs & pads with original equipment may well cost you approx £15k where as if you choose to fit GT3 steel replacemnets you can get away with spending approx £2k all inc labour etc...
There will be those with personal experience on here posting soon,,,but you are potentially faced with a huge service bill on brakes either now or later dependant on how the car has been or will be used.

Go and have a drive of one. Don't take a chequebook because you WILL want to take it away with you!

this site is a nightmare. another afternoon of doing
all work. have been looking at previous threads and the sensible approach is to put steel discs on, unless you have a bottomless pit of money. one point is the hardness of the drive. although i will use this car on the track, i do like to hoon around berkshire roads and the chilterns. however i don't like the thought of coming home with a compressed spine. i will test drive one (seen the perfect one at afn chiswick), and decide from there. any other comments put down will be appreciated and read; it seems like today is another write off work wise anyhow...

There are two GT2s for sale currently at OPCs.
The Black car was owned by GT Purely Porsche Magazine and it has had three engine replacements in 12,000 miles, as they have stated in their running reports.
Do not buy any GT2 or Turbo without warranty and do not ever allow the warranty to lapse!

There was a video posted on Stuttgartnines.co.uk that showed how little slack there is in the suspension. This can cause problems on speedbumps, getting into the driveway/garage etc.
If you live closeby to Chiswick, get the test-drive to pop to your house and check clearance.
From what i've read, a TurboX50 is a better road car, so unless you're doing a LOT of track time then try the Turbo as well
But... the GT2 is still my dream 'standard' Porsche
Pop by Pimlico when you've got it and i'll test out the passenger space for you
