Bought this 944, 4 weeks ago but had to wait to ccollect while changing from the private reg that was not incuded in the sale, it will be a daily driver for the wife.
It is 22,000 Miles from new, mint, one lady titled owner who has six cars and looking at the history appears to heve done a fairly consistant 20 miles a week, every week, apparantly she used the car to vist family on a Sunday.
Car even has the original radio, full tool kit and tyre compressor, known service history and 4 new tyres 3 years ago.
Only mark is on the gear knob which has been ripped by the wedding ring the lady wore, only no original parts are aalarm and a new maintain free battery.
My mechanic has gone over it in detail since the purchase and nothing unknown found, we will change all fluids, belts, hoses and consumables.
But I need two questions answered.
Car is Oct 1984, but has 16 inch teli dial wheels, are these a latter addition or were they an option on an 84? what I read says 84's had 15 inch wheels.
Is there a life to the Porsche space saver spare? the 4 tyres are new, but the spare is from 84, I appreciate the speed/driving range limits on the space saver but is this safe to use.
Cost just under 10,000 pound, silly money buy UK prices, but cheap where we live, and hell 22,000 mile in 25 years! how do you value it.

Nice looking car. The 16" teledials look like the Turbo variety, this will be an after market add on.

That looks fantastic, I've not seen the side rubbing strips in black before and they look good. Wheels are off an early turbo and suit the car better than anything other than cookie cutters IMO.

The spare will be hard and perished by now, but most are original. Is it a 15" spare anyway? Carry a can of tyre sealer as a backup.

A question for you, how does the bodywork last in Kuala Lumpur? I'd have thought the humidity was an issue, so treat the inside of the sills via the black pop-out vent in the b-pillar. Make sure the drain holes on the bottom of the sill are kept open. There are also rubber bungs leading to access holes in the sills under the carpet. Other weak areas are the bottom of the front wings, remove the platic liner and clean it out, then treat, and the fuel lines.

Thanks for the info, I thought you'd laugh at the price, but huge import tax on new cars and 5 pound an hour mechanic rate changes the economics of car running here. Paul, KL is good on cars, at least for good/quality cars, no salt, sun gets to the dash and cracks it, I have a 1985 635 BMW as my daily driver, had it restored, but no real rust problems, went back to bare metal and did not have to put a welding torch to it, not many 6'rs never seen a welding torch, the galvanised Porsche should be even better, but I'll check all the points you make I did try to upload a few other Photoes, but only one has come up, so here's another.

Hi there.

The alloy wheels won't be after market, they will be genuine Porsche items. They were the standard alloy for the 1986 model year oval dash cars. Just post a quick picture of the dash in your car to make sure it isn't a 1986 model year car.

I know some imported cars can loose or gain a few years in transit !

If you post the chassis number up we can also help you confirm the car's age (leave off the last 5 digits so your individual car can't be identified for any illicit activity).

All the best.

I'm pretty sure those wheels were an option on early "sqaure dash" cars - later cars that had them as standard are actually a different offset. If your car has no wheel spacers (which would be required with later wheels) then I'd say they were original. You could always check the option codes from the build sticker.

£5 per hour? If only rolleyes

I thought it was the 15" teledials that were standard fitment, these are 16" from a turbo (I think they have the early offset still). Car is definitely a square dash as it has the LHD wipers same as mine and the different windscreen mounting.

Have I earnt my beard yet?

Oh, one other thing; those tures arent new. They are 3 years old. Rubber deteriorates over time. Regardless of the amount of tread left, they might need hanging if the rubber has become hard

Well deserving of a beard, just not quite up to the full "anorak" yet but keep trying. wink

The Luxes had 15" teles, the early 220 turbos the 16" early offset teles. Late luxes, the 2.7s, had late-offset 15"teles.

No they aren't aftermarket, they are genuine Porsche alloys. I'm not aware that anyone ever made tele dial alloys as after market (ie non genuine), copy alloys although I stand to be corrected.

They may have been retrospectively fitted but the term aftermarket implies non genuine and these will be genuine wheels. Let's see what the chassis number says.

The poor chap, you'll all put the fear of god into him smile

Agian thanks for the interest, I don't think they are after market, they are real Porsche, but as said appear to come from a latter car (turbo), what I don't understand is how, the 944 is rare here, like under 20 in the country, so the chances of finding exrta wheels from a latter car is not easy, every thing I read talkes abot 15 inch in 84. I'm going to write to the Owner and ask about them and the body strip. It is a 84 square dash 944. It also has no rear belts which says it was imported new, not bought second hand in the UK and shipped out 3 years old.

Henry-F : You stand corrected.

£900 for the set. Made by Autostrada - 17" 3 piece.

I just re-read my original post. I didn't mean that the wheels were not original. Just that they probably were not available when the car was made. They are original Porsche wheels, but i suspected that these were from a 1986 turbo. Apologies to the OP.boxedin

Those aren't tele dial alloys. They are some funny split rims with a sort of tele dial style inside.

The reason for digging up the thread was that we did a deal on a car today which made me put my old school thinking head on and I suddenly remembered that non sport 3.2 Carreras came with tele dials as well !

Most of them have been swapped out by now.

As Marcus says the facelift and pre facelift 944's had different offsets and I can't remember what wheels went on what. I have a feeling that fuchs alloys used to fit on a pre facelift 944 in which case 911 tele dials would fit as well.

Bloody hell it's like being 20 again. smile

Hi, I know this is an old thread but I'm looking to respray my 944 this colour. Does any one know what the colour is called or what the colour code is? Many thanks

99% sure that's Sapphire Metallic as my 951 is the same colour. The code is LY5V
