Accurate valuation for my 996?

Hi, i'm looking for an accurate valuation for my 1997 R-reg Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 2wd manual Coupe. It's silver with black leather all the usual spec etc.
..but heres the 'problem' it's covered 256,000 miles! I personally put on 190k miles since i bought it in 2002. Used daily as you can imagine, and also many european holidays etc.

I am struggling to put on an accurate valuation. It's not perfect, but nor is it the bag of bolts you'd expect with those miles. Just to add it does have a full documented history from new and i have 2 folders full of all the invoices and mots etc, etc. A mixture of Porsche main dealr and specialist invoices.

Any ideas on price? and do you think i should private sell or trade in? (against another Porsche)

I have no idea on value...but have to congratulate you on using the car as it should be, not many people put 190k on a 911

Thats impressive, well done. I have just sold my Boxster and have been looking on the auto trader for a high mileage 996. I have not seen any with that type of mileage but if i was to have a guess i would expect you would probably only get around £4/5k for it.
I am sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly with an accurate price.

I don't know how you get an "accurate" price on that.

Anyway you must be lying as 996's all suffer from RMS & IMS failures that render them unreliable & prone to engine self destruct once you do more than 50k miles!

an 'accurate' valuation is unlikely, given that your car is so far out of 'the norm', your car will be a benchmark for future high mileage sales I'd say..

but realistically, you must be thinking 'next to nothing' ?

I cant see any dealer taking it, but you might get someone privately, but I imagine it will be a struggle... unless you practically give it away..

Why are you selling it ? surely you might as well run it into the ground now..

If it's sub £5k then it seriously appeals. It's the right spec (standard, 2wd) in a sensible colour combination and most importantly it's been owned by someone doing 25k a year. That has to mean that it's been well maintained by someone who can actually afford to keep the car.

Maybe I'm an utter loony but I do love the idea of this car. Shame I'm almost totally skint

Cars develop character with age and miles. A 250+k miles 911 therefore has so much character that breaking it is tantamount to murder.

Well, What Car's online valuator prices it at £2,705 for a private sale, £7,355 if you were a dealer. The prices on there do get updated monthly based on the used market, but don't take into account condition or spec, so I'm not sure how accurate they are. Probably somewhere between the two prices above would be fair.

Wow, that is an impressive mileage to put on any car let alone a 911 .

It’s almost impossible to guess what someone would be willing to pay but I would think it’d be well under market value no matter how good the condition.

Maybe 10k tops? 8-10k?

If you don’t mind me asking, did you have any of the well documented 911 engine failures in your galactic mileage?

This would be very interesting to know. If you have a bit of time on your hands, you could add your car on the 'My Garage' area here on PH, put in the figures and it'll calculate it all for you. Could take a while to go through all those receipts and invoices to put into the maintenance blog for it though!

I'd at least give it a try to sell it back to Porsche. Mercedes are known to have bought back very high mileage cars (alhtough quite a bit higher milage than yours) in the past and put them into museums.

as this is probably the only modern 911 i could feasibly afford i would really love too own your car, as it has had the proper routine servicing i am sure there are many more miles left in her.
