is it me or do all sports car here in the UK suffer from creaking windshield comes the winter and the horrible roads we have?

both my 993 did have creaking noises coming from the dash/windscreen area coming the winter time, now my 360M and even my FFRR supercharged!

i guess poor roads + cold is a terrible mix.

Both my 3.2 SSE and 993 do not suffer from creaking dash/windscreen noises. The only thing that creaks are my knee joints getting in and out of the cars.

Yes, very common on 993s. On the windscreen, put teflon tape between the frame and seal. Did the trick on mine. Then the rear will start

Mine is being re-done as we speak, lasted a couple of months, hopefully double packed might do the trick. My last 993 had five screens by AutoWindscreens, none of which were fitted correctly, ten months of bitter complaint and they agreed to let the OPC do refit it. Was perfect then traded it in for the next car with same problem, Aaaargh !

4 years of owning 4 different 993s, all minters, they all did it.

The best fix?

'finger' or 'spatula' some vaseline under the outside seal, all the way round, be generous. Works an absolute treat. The noise just stops!

Yep, I think the lube method is the best. I tried the rope trick, it was fine for 3 months, then re-packed, fine for 2 months. Liquid grease sprayed under the seal and its better than its ever been. PPS10's and last winter for the roads are a good test

All of them , pre teflon tape from factory they were very squeaky.....................not impressive
Plus the beginning of rubbing paint off around front and rear screens contributing to eventual corrosion...............

Yup, they all do it, Guv and once you're tuned into it... banghead

The effect varies with temps and the contraction/expansion of surrounding materials.

None of the fixes work via OPCs because the service personnel are vulgarians rather than artisans, these days which is a shocker given the cabbage they finger you for.

Tbh, even the 996 does it and the solution is to drive so rapidly your ears bleed.

Failing that, try some classic Uriah Heep, like Very 'Eavy, Very 'Umble.

I had my windscreen replaced last year. I have had the occaisional creaking especially on poorly surfaced roads and in the cold, I noticed it a bit when I came back on country roads from the Silverstone Sunday service a couple of weeks ago.

I had been thinking for several months whether to use some silicon spray under the the rubber seals and decided to do it when I got back.

This last week-end I drove to the I.O.W. which has pretty lumpy amd bumpy roads and it was also a cold week-end and I did not get one creak, nada, nothing, so I recommend giving it try if you suffer from the odd windscreen creak.

Thank God, I thought it was just me that AutoWindscreens were picking on.
Alas, I can only boast three screens and five months in their uncapable hands, small potatoes compared to Johny's .It's sad to admit, that I now know everything there is to know about the fitting of 993 windscreens and mine was totally and utterly creak and squeak-free when it was finally fixed by an Indie.

However...a bit of cold, a bit of rain, and the squeaking starts again, but stops after about ten minutes.

Full Fat ... no baby wag sport one biggrin

note: fixed the ferrari creaking noise: the steering column adjustement wasnt tight...only on italians this ever goes undone!!!

note note: looking around, sniffing the market to sell it already, after 5months and 9kmiles - for a white GT3 w/ buckets seats and red or yellow seat belts smile the real stuff
