997.1 Bluetooth devices

My 997 has the telephone module but it is basically useless because it needs a second SIM. I've been using a sun visor mounted bluetooth device which is OK at best.

Been looking a bluetooth solutions and wonder if anyone has any experience/comments on the ViseeO Porsche PCM 2 - Bluetooth Hands Free Kit?

Had mixed reviews on the Tooki and mObridge devices hence the question.

Put a Parrot MKi9200 into mine earlier this year and it is spot on.

The Dension Gateway 500 is another option. See here.

It was discussed here in the last couple of days here but I fitted one a year ago to be able to play music from a USB stick (as well as an iPhone), but of course it gives you pretty good phone integration as well. I'm really pleased with it and it gives me most of what I want.

The perceived view is that the Tooki is the dogs, but it's always going to be difficult making the PCM perfect.

Looks excellent but I do have some questions you might be able to help with if you don't mind:

1) on the YouTube video the installer makes reference to an integration kit for BMWs allowing the unit to be controlled from the steering wheel - do you have this and if so does it work well (might not be available for Porsche of course but worth asking)?
2) where have you located the unit?
3) any downsides at all? Looks excellent on the video.

Thanks - I know someone who has recently put a Denison into a Merc - I'll ask him what he thinks.

You said it provides 'most' of what you want - what's missing?

To be honest, anything connected to the PCM is not going to be ideal. I fitted a Pioneer head unit to a previous Boxster 987 and improved the experience immensely. Being extremely careful not to make it look like some MaxPower upgrade, I ended up with something that gave me superb SatNav and audio capability that outstripped the Porsche kit completely.

The only disadvantages with the add-on kit like the MoBridge and Dension units is that they are always restricted to an extent by the navigation methods on the PCM. Don't get me wrong, the PCM is ok, but it was surpassed by the rest a few years ago.

I agree... unless you have a Porsche warranty to protect I'd say any investment >£500 to provide Phone or ipod connectivity is wasted if your integration point in PCM 2.1.

I switched out my CDR HU with Garmin SatNav, Ipod, USB, Parrot Bluetooth, CD/DVD, (rear view camera option - not installed). http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've had a PCM2.1 in a 997.1 and there is no comparison.

I asked Porsche about fitting a blue tooth kit to mine and they said it would cause issues with the warranty.

I've had a PCM2.1 in a 997.1 and there is no comparison.

Thanks, I have BOSE which looks as though it could present an issue going down the route of a non OEM replacement for PCM 2.1. Although navigating around 2.1 isn't great I would like to retain the OEM look. I can get the kit I originally linked supplied and installed for £330.00 which seems fair for the bluetooth functionality (although my iPhone will only play music over bluetooth so quality won't be brilliant but with the tyre noise I'm not too fussed about that - phone use is more important than music sound quality to me - I listen to the radio a lot anyway).

No Porsche warranty so no worries there.

Thought about a second SIM but then my outgoing calls are from a telephone number recipients won't know and I end up paying for calls from a second SIM when I have already paid for them on my first SIM!! Not the end of the world but far from ideal - I would also forget to divert the phone - I know I would.

Car goes onto a specialist indy maintenance plan next month so no warranty to fret about.

Sorry for the late reply :
1. I have the sport steering wheel so no multi functions.
2. The leads are in the tray under the radio area only plug iphone in if I want to charge phone otherwise just keep phone in pocket.the display screen is on the dashboard right of the radio and can be removed if you wish.
3.only negative point is that if you are using the sat-nav the voice does not come over the speakers if you are playing music or making a call on the phone apart from that excellent.
