Hello we had our Cayenne Turbo 53 plate taken to a main dealer in London by RAC for a sticking starter motor as the starter motor has been fitted in the V of the engine, so only Porsche can get to it? anyway we were told that it would cost 1 hours labour, (this was on the Thursday in March 2010), we receive a phone call the following morning from service manager telling us that the cars battery has gone flat and they need to fit a new battery at a cost of some £700., we declined having a new battery supplied by them as we are well connected, and was able to source a new Porsche battery cheaper than them and had one delivered and fitted by our friends, we were then told that the car needed a new kessy unit as they said that without this they couldn't start the car, we agreed and ask them to keep the old one.
It's now Monday and we have received an email six times asking us to confirm that we agreed to works, and we sent them our agreement, then we are contacted on Thursday to inform us that they have to replace all our coolant pipes, now we are getting a bit concerned as this all started with a starter motor, we are being told that the Flagship car needs a new starter motor due to water damage and our bill is at £2600. they keep our car for another week then we complain to them, then to Porsche UK, they can,t do nothing as this dealership isn't part of the Porsche Group, so trading standards are called in to investigate what's going on, as a result of our complaint the dealership say that they are not going to complete works and that my car is dismantled and I should arrange payment and collection, we refuse hands down to pay or collect the car until it is put back together as they first received it from RAC, after a visit from trading standards they agree to put the car back together and also say that there is no charge for the coolant pipes worth over £500., we was going away for two weeks break and were told that our car would be done by time we got back. On our arrival back we paid the bill £1100. as advised by trading standards and we had the car picked up and taken to an independent garage to be checked, ( when car was picked up the service manager drove car from workshop and gave it over running.
When checked by independent garage they found water in engine oil, oil in coolant container, thick coffee cream on oil cap and dip stick, all plugs from drivers door to bodywork were disconnected, seven scratches on passenger side doors with a key and leather cut under rear arm rest, pictures and notes taken and car returned back to Porsche under life time guarantee on parts and labour, and the health and safety issues, they accepted the car back but said the water and oil missing isn't there fault but confirmed no coolant test was done after fitting new coolant pipes, now do you think they fixed our car, no they decided to go on the HPI register and found a old maker on our car for previous owners and handed our car to a agent/bailiff, only problem is our car is Hpi clear and we didn't have any finance on the car and we have the legal title, when we contacted Porsche they say they have given the car to an agent for the legal owners, so the question is what to do now??? service manager has been dismissed as well, and we have had a hire car since march 2010 to date, at £359. per day and they was put on notice of this ....

Hello,
Your starter motor is situated underneath some coolant pipework. You can replace the starter motor with out removing it as we have done before but, if it was the old plastic pipework it was probably leaking. Porsche modified the plastic pipework to aluminium but did not recall the cars ! So it is a fairly common fault on early cayenne's.
As said before you will need a lawyer. Who put you in the hire car ? Whoi s paying for that at present..?

You've had a hire car at £350 a day for about 220 days?
That's £78980 on a hire car. Are you currently picking up the bill for this and hoping that the garage is going to eventually pay it?
You need a lawyer, a very very good one, and paragraphs, not some advice from a forum.
Spikeyhead is right. Talk to Lucy Bonham Carter. She specialises in motor consumer cases. That's £78980 on a hire car. Are you currently picking up the bill for this and hoping that the garage is going to eventually pay it?

You should change the title of the post to attract a few legal types to comment. More like 'Sticking starter ended up costing the car' or something.
Wold be be so kind to PM me the dealer name in question?
We have already instucted 13 Old Square Chambers to handle this matter and yes their are two/three Porsche dealers who are not part of Porsche UK and are Part of the Lancaster group, owned by Jardine, we was very surprised that it wasn't part the UK Group.
We believe that a jumped up service manager got caught and sacked, and everyone should always question some of the prices that you are quoted by main dealers, seems to be one big con on the customers and the way the car is designed to fail and cost you a fortune.
Best bet buy a nearly new and use the warranty to the max, when you spend this type of money, any problems should be dealt with free of charge.
Anyway next post will be settlement figure and copy of payment, £165,000.00 for their stupidity, thanks for all comments everyone..

You're really not expecting any court in the land, when you have a legal duty to minimise your expenses, to ask them to pay that are you?We believe that a jumped up service manager got caught and sacked, and everyone should always question some of the prices that you are quoted by main dealers, seems to be one big con on the customers and the way the car is designed to fail and cost you a fortune.

Bizarre, absolutely, completely and utterly bizarre. When and where is the case being heard?
The High Court London but we are told that it won't go to court and that they will want to settle out of court with a gagging order, and I think its Porsche who should keep cost down, and we are also told that a judge would throw the book at them, so don't mind either way, thanks.............
