Remapped 996 turbo - insurance recommendations

Hi All

It's insurance renewal time and my cuurent provider Admiral have stated they will not insure my currently standard 996 turbo X50 if I get a remap. As I'm set on the remap come spring has anybody got recommendations of companies that are sympathetic to this sort of modification.

The best quote I've got so far is Adrian Flux @ £1350 with the remap versus £750 from Admiral for the standard car so quite a big difference!

Listen I have my insuranced for 30k donor car, 20k of upgrades, total value of £50k. That means that I get back other than labour all the bits on my car in the event of a write off. Most insurances are only insuring you for the extra risk only. The cost £995 on 800hp car. I know that you are saying you only have a map at this point, but you should be able to get a good quote from Johnathon below.

Blimey, for that price you must be about 150 years old

I'm with Nowell and Richards and from memory, when I asked them last year - they were fine with a remap if the quoted power increase was less than 10% but there was a charge if it was more than that (although I don't think it was too excessive). I've still not convinced myself about a remap, because I don't want to make my insurance more complicated - but it's nice to know places like Pace Ward exist.

One of my cars a SL has just been written off, after weeks of calls not being returned, conflicting information and plenty of aggro with one of the above sister companies. The settlement is highly laughable. When asked what I thought it was worth the bell end on the otherside oof the line starts laughing, so I just laugh with him. They think its worth 2/3 and that Glass's guide retail price is just a guide!!! Proper cars need proper insurance BE WARNED.

Admiral will insure re-mapped turbo's. When I was looking at getting done I got a quote and I think they wanted something in the region of £90 more. I know they have a system on working it out depending on the increase of engine power in a percentage i.e. if you have increased it by 15% etc.

I pay around £390 for the turbo with Admiral on a multi car policy so I thought the extra £90 wasn't a bad quote at all.

Nope you’ve not missed it. I have just had the turbo inlet intake kit put on my car, so I am waiting for some dry roads to get some data logs. I would say the car is about 510 at the wheels at the moment. Suffice to say that the car now spools at 2000rpm and is @ 0.7bar at 3000rpm 1.2bar @ 5200 rpm and holding all the way to 7200rpm.

I have a set of k24/18'g on their way, so bigger injectors and bigger turbos, IPD and an EBC should see 600 at the wheels, so I will get a full write up before I sell the 16/16's on

I’m also going to put in a 964RS lightweight flywheel and do the GT2 slave cylinder conversion at the same time, so the car will transform from where it is at the moment.

Buy cheap buy twice. Youre not going to get the same level of service from these small mickey mouse firms as you would from one of the big 5-6. You will only find this out when its too late. Made the mistake once many years ago, never again!

I've always seemed to get a far better service from the small brokers, as opposed to going directly to some call centre, somewhere in the world, where you never get to talk to the same person and can't strike a rapport with them.

I'm just about to take delivery of a stock 996 x50 tip 2002 I been driving since 87 and got 10 yrs NBC, I'm 46 and advanced driver as old bill I plan to map the car and no more, been quoted £313 comp for the year stock, in the past ive paid an extra £20 for a map on my 997 C2s
