997 prices after New 911 release.
Discussion
I am looking at buying my 1st Porsche this year but I'm now having second thoughts due to the release of the new model towards the back end of the year. I called into Porsche Silverstone last week & had a chat with the salesman. He told me the new 911 is due out October this year with delivery expected Dec 11 / Jan 12. I have around 40k to spend & was looking for a 2006 ish C2 with Aerokit & PSE my thinking is if I wait until after release will the prices drop heavily... I except I am going to lose money but I don't wish to pay 40k & find 6-12 months later it's worth 25k ?? Will I be able to pick up a good 997 Turbo for 40k ish next once the new model is out...
Any views...
Cheers.

No. The 7t is losing money faster than what the 6t during the same time in its life.
Buy the car you can afford to lose money on, you can't put a price on enjoyment.
(Also the 7t will be released a couple of years after the next gen carrera)

That's high mileage, red, from N.Ireland, from non opc dealer.
Its only done 48k over 4 years thats not bad and mileage doesn't make a bad car, looks good value for someone if it's sound. Callughan said:

By good i presume you mean a car with no dodgy past?NO.
A good turbo is still going to command at *least* 50k in 10 months time imo. There will be the odd exception - i.e. a car with high mileage, over-revs, accident damage e.t.c., but i can't see a *good* turbo (which will cost you 55-60k today presuming you want some decent warranty on it) losing £1500-£2000 a month for the next 10 months.

I'm thinking the early gen2 Carreras will be good value in 12 months time, they have a lot going for them compared to the gen1 cars.
Agreed, and in the real world road driving nearly as much fun as the Turbo/GT3's.I reckon the GTS will be quite an attractive buy for it combines so much.
Gen 1 GT3's are already in their 50's, and dependent on when the 991/998 GT3's are out will face further pressure as the Gen 2 GT3's drop to sub 70k.
Have Porsche tried to fill too many niches

no way will 997 turbos be £40k at the end of the year. You have to remember a new 991 will ba an 80k plus car, 991 turbo won't be out for at least 2 years from now and will be 120k. Still a big difference to a 60k 3 year old turbo. The only cars that will get hit hard are any new 997 leaving the showrooms towered the end of the year, but there won't be many and will be discounted. If you are planning on spending 40k then get on with it now, no point waiting another year.
Taking all things in to consideration (fuel costs, VAT rises, public sector job losses, new '911', banker's bonuses, inevitable interest rate rise, house price falls, difficulty in obtaining finance etc, etc), I anticipate good, maybe with highish mileage, 997 turbos retailing privately for sub £45k in 3-6 months time. Of course, I do hope I am wrong and that the economy recovers strongly.rog007 said:

The same dealer had a 2007 Silver 997T for £46995 just before Christmas. Can't see prices on turbo going that low. Cars like bottom out much like the 996 has. In my opinion C2 is the perfect entry into Porsche. You would learn an awful lot more in a C2 than turbo as itr is a more usable car on our roads. Fast and nibble, ok does not have the torque of the turbo but easier on tyres and brakes and overall running costs. For resale what milleage, something under 30,000 miles preferably and what for the number of owners 1 or 2 great 3 or 4 ok 5+ be careful.
