Info on a Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet

Hi Everyone

I'm a new member after some advise. I recently inherited a a 1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet. It is in mint condition, low mileage (85976), body work is in excellent condition, Full cream leather interior and runs like a dream. Not the greatest of colour, Champagne Gold/Silver.

Anyway, I was wondering what kind of value they now have? I have looked into keeping it and the expensive insurance is a massive put off. Real shame as it is a lovely car. Are there specific classic Porsche dealers i can get in touch with?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Insurance?

Surely if it's a second car you can put it on a limited mileage classic policy very cheaply?

I run a 944 turbo with modifications, including capacity increase from 2.5 to 3 litres. Not garaged in a fairly rough part of town, 5000 miles a year for around £350 on a classic policy.
Running costs on 944's can be high though, which would be the biggest factor.

maybe I haven't looked into the insurance side of things well enough. What companies would you recommend? Or would you use classic car insurers only? They were scary prices on the web, one of which was nearly £4k.

generally speaking, the search engine webiste (gocpmare, etc) dont do classic cars- they will insure it as any other. Hence they will quote for you with a 3 litre, 150mph convertable performance car.

As long as you are over 25 years old you cna get classic insurance, but they are specialists. A google search will reveal some, so will the back of car magazines. Also, there might be a discount if you joined one of the Porsche clubs. I;ll let others debate which club is "better"

Try Aviva, my Modded Turbo is only £360/ year.
2 years ago I was with Swinton's Classic for £201/year but they stopped insuring only cars

TBH value depends on what has been done recently e.g. rust free sills, cam & balance belt & cam chain. Also clutch.
Colour isn't the greatest but maybe not an issue for some.

wow, great to see another 944 cab person on here. Youre a lucky person to get a low milage 944 cab, they're getting pretty rare, as for the insurance it's going to be a pain for younger people, but my dad is paying about £150 fully comp for his 944 cab

also the major letdown of a 944 is the running costs sometimes, most of the time its reasonable but being a Porsche parts and servicing can get expensive and being one of the front engined cars they arnt worth as much as the 911, so sometimes the work needing to be done to the car can cost more than the value (though i doubt this is the case for you)

Best place to start with Classic insurance is Classic Line, they were the only one to cover things like cars that aren't garaged when I first looked, and were more flexible than the others. That'll give you a guide price, you can then try the other CLassic insurers. Plenty in all the specialist mags.

None garaged is an issue for me but Hagerty & CVi both don't worry. RH have it as a requirement though.
