Registering a Tuscan in Spain
Discussion
Hi, anybody have experience in registering a mkI tuscan in Spain? I have a 2000 speed six and it is the first car I have had a problem changing the UK plate to Spanish.
I have a motorcycle rental company and have registered loads of UK bikes and cars over here but the Tuscan has proved to be a tad difficult. I cannot get a certificate of conformity because the factory is closed and also the Tuscan does not have the e*11 number that would make it easy to register in Europe.
I spoke to the engineer at the registration station today and he said I would have to do a single vehicle homoglation which costs about 2000 Euros and could take up to six months!
I know Tuscans are registered throughout Europe but have never seen a Spanish one.
If anyone can help me get out of the cost and hassle of the single homoglation nightmare I would really appreciate it.

not having seen one doesnt mean that there isnt one
have someone check the spanish database of registerd cars for you
if you find a spanish registerd tuscan you can use the same info and data
they will have to accept that
if you're really the first one and you really want to proceed it's going to cost you

No, there is no guarantee that the car will comply with the current regs and after the whole process they could come up with something they dont like!
Today I heard back from the guys who are looking into the homoglation database and it looks like we might be able to buy an official copy of a car that was done in 2009 and it only costs 50 Euros.
That said we still have to persuade the enginers to accept that as it is at their discretion.
If you have any information on the French system it could only help and I would really appreciate it.
Needless to say I will post all the info here as soon as we have the car registered.
Summer has arrived and I cannot wait to get it back on the road.

what would happen if you had it registered in another eu country that had similar rules though with less complication? Such as France to Spain? I have no idea if France is easy, just could be another route in? Switzerland seems hard work and high standards, though no major costs are incurred??
There are many ex pats in the south of Spain who simply keep their UK plates on their cars. Because I am resident here I have to register my cars in Spain otherwise I would need to register the car with a friend in the UK and keep going back for MOT´s and pay UK insurance, I only pay 350 Euros per year through my Spanish company for the Tuscan.
The same would apply if I registered the car in any other EU country then tried to register here.
Thanks for the thought though.
