For my TUSCAN Mk2 I want to get a second key ( and alarm). No problem for the separate META alarm command, but the key?? Is it a key from FORD or GM ? and where can I obtain that double?
Thank you for your help.

Hi

2 options

1st is to order a new barrel and 2 keys from TVR power (I think they have the mk2's)
2nd get carl baker a call , details here http://www.tvruk.tv Key can be cut anywhere as std key (ford I think on mk2's, Gm on mk1's I think)

MK1 keys are different.

I got a new mk1 key as follows:

Phone a meta alarm dealer and order the key fob part and quote alarm key number found in handbook
Take a key to a proper locksmith who can do laser side cut keys (I found one in Southend on Sea (don't ask)
Locksmith copies key
Cut key away from its plastic fob
Open new alarm fob and install key blade

Or

Phone Carl Baker who will do the above for you but its costs about 50% more

note if you dont know how many keys have been coded to the car, your best bet is to take the whole lot (car and keys) to Carl. Only 6 keys can be coded ever. If you need to code more then the alarm code internally has to be reset and keys coded as from new.

The meta alarm is only understood by a few people. My new key fob did not code to the alarm, so David Gerald took the alarm brain out and sent it away with the keys so that the whole system could be recoded.

How much was the DIY option, I have no key card so I'll be off to Carl!

Approx figures were:

New fob £45 Key Cut £12

If it went to Carl for a reprog and 2 new keys it was circa £180. I think a new key and fob was about £90

Mine was an Opal key, you have to be careful, there are two blade types a long and a short. The Tuscan needs the long one

It is a Vectra B column as I've just replaced mine.

My key with new remote fob. New fob feels better made and more robust. Looks slightly more modern too.

I saw this thread the other day and thought - I really should get a second key.... I have only had a one key for 4 and a bit years......

Only for today, my key fob to die on me, I think it is the switch inside, but it no longer seems to do anything. Taking it apart and jiggling things doesn't seem to help. I might try and replace the battery once I have a new key.

Luckily, it failed after unlocking and not locking so I could still get home to order a new key from abacus linked above for £62.

Does anyone know if I will be able to use the car in the meantime - I tried to start it later on using the mini fob to turn off the immobiliser but I don't want to get stranded anywhere.

Bob

p.s. don't fancy leaving it unlocked in Le Mans the week after next.....

If the micro switch has failed and you are any good with a soldering iron, you can buy a second hand fob from ebay and swap the switch across.

I bought one, in same type of case as G33 posted above, and used the switch as above and swapped the case along the lines of G33's instructions, to resurrect one of my old keys.

Key sorted,

received the key from abacus next day and just need a blade laser cut to go in it.

The one additional bit of information not really detailed above is that once you have the new remote fob, you still need a working fob to get the cart into the mode where new keys can be paired with the car. i.e. just giving the meta company the magic number from the red card isn't enough to then open your car.

(I hadn't realised this and was lucky that my old key came back to life to be able to do this)

Once you have the new fob, you need to do a little dance on the buttons (all explained in the instructions from abacus) and get the new key to work with the car.

2 minutes later and I was a very relieved 2 key owning tuscan driver......
