Under pressure to sell :(
Discussion
Well, didnt think it would happen but finally the missus tackled me!!
We have just had a little one and intend to move house early next year.
Then the inevitable conversation....would you consider selling the Tuscan if we saw a house we really liked??
Oh god.
My answer - i will only consider selling it if i HAVE to! We dont NEED to sell the Tuscan to move, we can afford what we want in a good area... but maybe not in the 'idyllic' village that she has in her head!!
My point is, we all live to our means...if i sell it, we buy a more expensive house, end of. I wont see another TVR for a good long time i know that!
Really dont want to go there...taken 2 years to get it sorted and i just want to enjoy it now
Was miserable when i sold the Cerbera!!!
The joy's of family

I did without a TVR after selling my Tuscan, let me tell you when you see one passing when your walking or driving in your shed, you will turn into a jibbering wreck, break into a sweat whilst throwing your arms about talking in tourettes!!. Prepare yourself for hours on pistonheads looking at the classifieds and saving every picture that gets posted to your PC so you can study them in minute detail later. You will also turn into a bore telling anyone that will listen that you USED TO HAVE a TUSCAN and sleep, well you can forget that, you will wake up at various times in the night dreaming of slipping down into 2nd gear burying the throttle and listning to the HOWL of that Straight Six and the ferocious pops and bags as you hold the power as you sweep through the bend.
Still at least you will have a nice kitchen to look at!!!!
Needless to say I have another TVR a Cerb this time after my Tuscan and nothing will come between us, I'd even part with one of my NIAGRA FALLS before I let my SP6 Cerb go

Well dear, you have your little bundle of joy and I have mine.
Will you sell yours because we won't need to move house if we sell yours?
Alternatively:Will you sell yours because we won't need to move house if we sell yours?
Well yes I would consider it for you darling but it would make me somewhat unhappy and then I will start looking back on those good times when my TVR was my pride and joy and wondering what else I am going to have to let go of in the coming years.
Perhaps I could keep hold of it for now and see how we manage?

I love that response!! But, i can totally understand cause i have been there when i sold the cerb - swore i would never do it again as it just made me miserable, and, yes i became a PH addict. Funny im probably on here less now!!! Still at least you will have a nice kitchen to look at!!!!

The house / fun balance is one i need to keep - it keeps me sane!! I jump in the Tuscan and you forget about everything else but driving and having fun!! You long for that when you dont have one.
Trouble is there is a part of me that feels selfish for wanting that escape, and it being in the form of an expensive Toy!
Could consider something cheaper...but then i would really feel like i had sold the best and bought second best, where is the satisfaction in that?!
There is nothing like a TVR for the bang / buck package IMO...

I'm in the same boat, (sprog on the way).
Have you considered fluffy baby-grows and a big strip of velcro across the parcel shelf?
Quote missus....'she is never going in that heap of junk'....unquote.Have you considered fluffy baby-grows and a big strip of velcro across the parcel shelf?
Said tongue in cheek, with that little bit of meaning that women like to slip in!!!
I on the other hand want to be taking her out in it to race meets when she is old enough
(if i still have it.....) I'll say it because no one else has.
MTFU!
All this equality balls! What happens when there's a spider in the bath? Hmm? What happens when a fuse blows on the house lights? Hmm?
I'll tell you what happens, you have to do it yourself and be a brave boy. You'll still have the TVR to comfort you.

I think its about life balance as previous people have said, so its worth having some escapism eg the Tuscan.
Working on the basis that the car is worth say £20k (i don't know what year it is or what mods) then I an not sure that would be enough to make the difference between what you would have been looking at and an idyllic village. £20k is nothing in property terms and is only about £50 per month interest on a mortgage.

I have always been a petrolhead, i mean obsessed with cars. Its all i'm really interested in, i get as much enjoyment out of fiddling around fixing things, polishing random bits of metal no one will ever see as i do from driving the things.
A while back i managed to get myself a nice evo9 (i know, i know) , then talk came of buying a house (i lived with parents,gf pretty much did too, i was happy, i was rich
) so the evo had to go, we needed the money towards the big deposits being needed.
I was quite gutted.
We f
ked around forever to get a house, 3 fell through, the fourth one came off which as luck had it was bigger, better and in a nicer road than all the others
We wont know for years but i truly belive we bought at a good time, we got a real bargain so selling the evo then did help me i must admit.
For nearly a year i ripped the house apart, renovating every inch. Once that was done i found myself almost depressed, i started looking at the classifieds more than i probably look at my girlfriend
i just couldnt get my hands on the money though
Recently i managed to get myself enough funds for my first tvr and to say im happy now is an understatement, its an obsession.
One day it will have to go, but not to fund a bigger house, like mentioned 15-20k makes no difference once you own a property and have some equity (obviously its a massive amount otherwise). It will only go when work gets hard which will hopefully not happen too soon.
The beauty of this car i think is the insurance is so cheap its not like other cars where you pay £120 a month, petrol is free when your not using it so to put it away for a few months until things pick up is well feasable, unlike some other cars which cost money to sit there.
So long and short is keep it, we only live once, its not a huge extravagance, or just wait a while to move or just put the misses on the streets and buy a sagaris and a new house

Thanks for the support guys!!
Funnily enough not one 'yeah i did the same, thats life'!!
No-one sells these cars because they have to and thinks its was for the best i guess...if you're forced into it you will always lament another!!
Youre also right about the money not making a huge difference in the long run, but in the short term, LTV's can affect interest rates which do have a big affect...and thats the sticking point!
Well, you can bet im not going to sell easily, i think there is definitely a difference between 'need' and 'want' here!!
...but then other half may argue 'you dont NEED' your Tuscan
