digital readout is ok, but the analogue does 1 of four things;

1. works (rarely)
2. gets stuck on an exact number, mostly 40 & 60
3. reads about 150 at 30
4. doesn't work at all (mostly)

whole dash repair ??

No, I think its a sensor problem.
Had the same on my early Mk1

Don't panic easy fix, new sensor and setup. Might be lucky and it is just dirty but worth changing anyway.

Could be worth checking the plastic fascia hasnt been pressed against the speedo (happened to ne after cleaning it).

If not i had similar symptoms after changing my LCD screen, there is a stepper motor that sits against the back of the screen and moves the needle, if it is poorly adjusted (too tight /loose) it wont work properly.
You will need to take the dash apart to adjust this though.
If none of above try cleaning the sensor with some fine grade wet and dry paper and the wheel with a wire brush.

Worth trying all these before you (potentially) waste money smile

My speedo also plays up, needle swings erratically at above, ( ahem!!) 90. Have a few missing lines on LCD now. Is there a guide showing how to take the pod apart?
