I thought it looked ok. I would buy the TVR Power warranty for the engine and get the car checked over by an expert. But it looks pretty good to me, if I was in the market for one it would be on mt list to see.
It would be worth trying to find ut if there is more to the Cat D than meets the eye as window glass isnt that hard to come by.

Unfortunately in 2010 the battery earth failed causing the alarm to start in a carpark, the fire brigade were called out, worrying about the arcing they tried to access the battery but could not open the bonnet.
In their failed attempts they smashed the drivers side window and broke one of the bonnet catches. Once the battery ran flat they left. The insurance company could not source a new window so categorised the car as a CAT D.
As Nick mentioned above, why would they write the car off for want of a side window? In their failed attempts they smashed the drivers side window and broke one of the bonnet catches. Once the battery ran flat they left. The insurance company could not source a new window so categorised the car as a CAT D.

I would be genuinely surprised (but pleasantly surprised all the same) if anybody would offer a warranty on factory built engines....give Dom a call and discuss this - dont take it as read. I would imagine this will involve a hefty inspection and you wont know what items you have to put right to qualify for the warranty until committed, so approach with care.
Cant for the life of me understand why it is a CAT D cause of a window, that doesnt add up.
I think its a risky one personally...you could save £6k or so on the asking price for a non CAT D 'S' and end up throwing cash at it, if that cash happens to be at the engine it could easily exceed £6k, and you wont see a good recovery on that cash if you ever come to seel because it was a CAT D to start with. All IMHO of course

I'll start by saying I am not sure if this was the car because the dates don't tie up, I am sure it was 2009 not 2010 but might be wrong. I looked at a GTS blue Tuscan at Cleave motorsalvage that was a cat D. There had been a small fire in the battery area, nothing serious. The fire brigade had tried to get the bonnet open not realising that it was bolted down and ripped the corner of the bonnet. Can't remember about the windows but it is possible they put the window through. It needed a new bonnet, paint, battery cover, battery, wiring and carpets. It was up for sale at the time for 14k as I looked at it.
Hope that helps.

I pondered over this car when i was looking, i didn't have 20k to have pick of the bunch though so was looking at the lower end of the market.
This car certainly looks the part in the pictures at least but a couple of things put me off.
No rebuild: so many on here say not if but when....
Cat d for what he is saying does sound odd to me....
He was also not the easiest person to communicate with, giving a couple of short and blunt replies, i like people to be pleasant, maybe he is but his manor came across pretty bad imo.
So i left it, he wanted 14k for it.
I ended up with a red rose 2001 car with 55k on it but and heres the big but it had just had 8k spent on it with a rebuild by power and their 3 year warrenty about 4 months prior to me buying, the paint is not perfect and the interior was a bit tatty but interior is sorted now and i dont think the paint warrents a respray only for it to get peppered again, its now a lovely looking car and has been great for me.
There are some bargains out there but the lower end you will only get cat d's or perhaps not so mint older cars.

I went to look at it last year, when for sale in Edinburgh, this is second time it's been for sale since. I also had the before repair pics, don't know if I can find them now though. Looks pretty much the same though it was on silver spiders when I looked at it. Sorry for the late reply was away for the weekend.

thanks for the info bud looks like its been around a bit. i will keep lookingNo wonder he didnt reply to your owners question QUOTE " If I dont answer your questions then its no or the answer is in the listing above." TRY READING THE ADD ITS IN THERE !!! (thick cut)
The newer engines are as he said: more refined from the earlier crap lumps of scrap in earlier cars, Thus not needing a rebuilds.
He obviously knows his car by the way the add is worded and Upgraded parts fitted/ TVR service history, TVR club member ,could it get any better???
Drop glasses were no longer available 2 years ago this is true , this and an electrical fault (bad earth) as listed could easily end up in insurance pay out, As in ad it says what hasnt been damaged
If a car is stolen and parked up the ins could pay out and then the car turn up totally un daaged but be a cat d
Looks like someone got a bargain and others were losers.
Id love to know how many very high number of your cars have had a knock and repair at some time or are cat c +d
2 many ill informed/ nieve scaremongers out there that dont know what there advising about (talking s
t) if ya ask me.
P.S. i have no no connection to the car or owner
