Scrap! Once they start breaking up they generally just block themselves more and more till you get zero power! Still worth weighing in at the scrap man thoughsmile

As BIGMIKE says, you should be able to sell them to a scrap metal guy. Cats on some cars can be worth about £150 due to the price of metal. Even heard of people's cats being chopped off by thieves because they're so valuable.

You can buy new ones for about £160 each smile

As a matter of interest how do you get to the cats. I need to remove the cat parts of my pipes and refit as I have a small blow

i paid a garage to do it! i dont have anywhere i could do this sort of work myself really so took the easy route. i'm told it's definitely a diy job as long as you have access to ramp or pit.

It's easy enough with it on axle stands. Drop the chassis plate off below the engine and you can get at them fairly easily.

I swap the cats in for the MOT and it takes about an hour.

There's a pair in the classifieds, not sure what size they are though. I recollect that there were two sizes, one for the big bore and another for the standard exhaust 57mm and 54mm respectively

Just heard from the garage, it's £150 per cat which isnt much more than the used ones, so we're going to try replacing just the more knackered one for the purposes of MOT. I'm de-catting immediately anyway so should be fine. Would rather have new cats than used i think.

Might be worth seeing if you can borrow a pair from someone if just for the MOT. You could use mine but it's a bit far. smile

thanks for the offer but you're right, it's a bit of a stretch! it's difficult enough persuading my wife to get in the tuscan as it is so there's a good chance i'll be refitting the cats relatively soon because of the insane noise i am expecting evil . so it's not a bad idea for me to have some on standby anyway...

Mine was exactly the same.

I've had the car 6 years.

She's still here.

Apart from that, as you say, Happy days!
