Sorry if this has been talked about before as I know there are plenty of exhaust topics around, but I can't seem to find any which talk about removing the rear silencer boxes.
Has anyone done this?
I've just had my exhaust can welded back on to the rear silencer box and the guys who did it for me at the Longlife exhaust place said it would be a pretty easy thing to do.
Got to admit, after driving with the missing rear can I thought it sounded awesome. Hard to explain, but reminded me of a top fuel dragster on tick over. Since refitted just now it sounds too quiet! (sleeved standard cans running a cat).
So, is removing the rear silencer a goer, or should I get this thought out of my head and just get it decatted?

£500 seems a lot. Didn't ask the guys how much it would cost but they got all the equipment to bend the stainless steel pipes to the required shape.
My cans are already sleeved. I'd like to think I wouldn't be too bothered by the noise, however I'm sure my ears were hurting a bit after driving it home on Saturday with the missing can...

I've removed the rear boxes on mine. I have also decatted. It does sound awesome although sometimes it can be too much and gets on my nerves. If you do it then you might find you need different cans. I had ccc's on for about 1 mile before taking them off. Now settled on oval cans from Racing Green which reduced/changed the noise to what I was after.
I've had the rear exhaust boxes removed and i'm running with a standard 'non-S' spec exhaust with standard rear cans which i've sleeved. The sound is just about perfect. It's bloody loud when pressing on, cracks and pops like a new years eve firework display, yet is still bearable in 'Miss Daisy' mode.
The work was done by a local exhaust specialist (Advanced Automotive Systems of Newcastle) and it cost £170 which was very good value. Excellent workmanship and all in stainless steel including clamps and welded hanger.
Love it
