Mk1 S. Been running fine ubntil now.

Seems to splutter and stop every time I am at the lights. Struggles to maintain the 700rpm idle- dips below, has an automatic surge to get back up, then dies after a couple of attempts.

No other problems. Drives fine when actually on the move.

Without resorting to a full service or trip to the garage, which I was hoping to put off for another month, is there anything else I could do to sort it for now?

Cheers

Someone will be along who knows more than me, but I believe you can adjust the idle up as a stop gap. A friend's Tuscan did this at the start of a long trip so we popped the bonnet off and adjusted the idle up to stop it cutting out. There is a screw somewhere which you need to adjust. Obviously a temporary solution as if not idling the bigger question is why.

Hope that helps.

It may be the throttle pots need resetting, or there is some wear in the pots/bodies.

Have you got a lead and software?

You can adjust the throttle stop in the the interim, you will need to take the airbox off and its in the centre of the throttle bodies. Just wind it up to 850-900 ish.

I wouldnt suggest you run for too long like this though, its could indicate out of balance throttle bodies or worse still mal adjusted tappets, which could lead to much bigger problems, you really need to get it checked.

Thanks for the advice.

Will bring the service date forward- dont want to take any chances.

I had hoped to take it back oop north but I may not have the opportunity.
Any decent garages in the southwest (around Stroud/Bristol/Bath) or the southern end of the midlands ?
