I have just bought a TVR Tuscan 4.0L 2001 car.

Are there any words of wisdom (or just words) about the car, what to watch ou for, how to drive it, any strange habits (not you the car)

Cheers

Welcome!

My only words of wisdom are :-

1. Do not to press the 'go' pedal too much when going around corners.
2. Never 'stab' at the accelerator (also known as the big noise pedal on the right).
3. Always have your favourite CD, sunglasses and sunscreen in the car.

Oh yeah, goes without saying .....Enjoy.

Only do this if you have an uprated ICE system. In a standard car listen to the exhaust

5) Take the roof off unless its raining heavily

6) Always give it a few revs when pulling away otherwise it will stall.

7) Don't expect to get ore than 200 miles to a tank (I fill up when 12l left as gauges are not always accurate).

8) Grin inanely at every possible opportunity.

9) Join your local runs out either on PH or TVRCC and join the rest of the tuscanauts.

Welcome to the joys of tuscan ownership

Just take it easy at first as objects in the windscreen can appear closer than they were, very quickly.

Warm it up properly before giving it the full beans. There's some warm up and running in advice from John Ravenscroft the engine designer on here if you search.

Also - don't know what you drove before - but take your time building up the speed you drive it at. The acceleration and braking are in a different league, the fast variable rate steering rack will take a while getting used to. Once you've mastered it you'll be wondering why everything else is soooo slow.

Oil level - must be checked just after the fully warmed up engine is turned off - it's a dry sumped engine and all the oil quickly falls from the resevoir to the bottom so you can get a low reading and overfill if you leave it too long.

Cheers,

Andy.

That's an excuse to show off the engine, and you know it! The engine doesn't stall when pulling away without getting the revs up. You can achieve quite sedate pull offs with minimal noise and from idle revs.

Several of my other halfs neighbours have complained about the noise my car makes at midnight when I drop by, so revs are out for me. I'm now a dab-hand in quiet pull offs. (Wait - that came out funny...)

Just don't rev up on a cold engine, Millerman. At all other times, go ahead and enjoy pushing that rev counter up.

Thanks to all for the wise words.

Its amazing what information is availiable here. I look forward to reving (just a bit) as I set off. I have got the sunglasses, but a shall leave the CDs for now, i shall listen to the straight six rumble.

I had a Mazda MX5, so the difference in power etc may be a little noticable.

Whats this I hear about getting locked out (or in)?

Whats the best cleaning product to keep it nice and shiney ? (I am sure one or two flies and bugs will die on the front) Is there anything to remove their corpses without damaging my paintwork?

How do I join TVRCC, whens the next meeting?

Cheers all

That's just the excuse we use for staying in the car far longer than we should've done.

Seriously, I've never heard the rumour and havent' been locked in or out.

take it easy then. Really. I would suggest getting yourself to a big supermarket carpark after it closes and is empty. Do it in the wet, and do it in the dry. Play with the car. Find out how quick it goes round a corner, what happens when you are too quick, what happens when you put the foot down a bit too much round a corner or in a straight line, etc, etc.

I've been using maguire products. The whole shebang.. cleaner (removes swirl marks), polish (makes it look wet look shiny), wax (protect). You can then wash it with water most of time, and their car wash product when needed. They also do 'detailer'. Which is a wee spray thing (I keep it in the car now). You use this at the end of journeys to take off light dust, etc and it works great on fresh insects too.

Thanks for the replies.

It looks like I have a lot to learn (about the car that is). Powerlords advice about th car park seems a good idea. I shall just have to find a local supermarket car park with no CCTV (OH! and no trollies in my way)

I am due to Pick it up on Saturday. I must say that I am more than a little bit excited.

The big question is "should I watch the Football or go for a drive in my new TVR Tuscan Hmmmmmmmmmmm?
