I've just been reading tuscanuwe's thread on brake pads with interest. I'm going to need new discs and pads before Novembers MOT time. Where is the best place you guys have found for buying these? Has anyone found a really good combination of discs/pads for everyday use, preferably that you don't need a new mortgage to purchase.
Cheers,
Phill.

You'll get lots of opinion on that one, and it is a very personal taste.

In no particular order

Ferrodo DS
EBC
Carbon L's

Plus a heap of others.

I was thinking of maybe doing a review to cut the BS from the facts, but need a bit of space.

I've just let go of my 2000 Tuscan after 4 years and the best thing I did to improve the braking was the simple upgrade to the drilled discs from Dom at TVR Power. I can't recall which pads went on with them but if you have the original spec discs on your car these'll make a big difference. I think they were about £140 each but trust me, for a solution that improves the braking and doesn't cost the eath, it made a huge difference.

Good luck.

I have 322mm cross drilled and they are great......

You need an adapter kit as well.

I've heard good reviews of Mintex 1144 and Pagids as well.

I run DS2500s on mine.

Hi Basil

are you happy and satisfied with your DS 2500?
Or do think to change?
A comment will be great!

As I suspected there is no definative answer here, just a lot of what feels right for you. I've already got the rears done by Dom last MOT and they seem fine, maybe just go down that route again for the fronts. Thanks for the interest.

I really like them. Nice initial bite and ok when cold. I found the standard tvr ferodo compound like blocks of wood in comparison.

Ferodo DS 2500 are well recommended, Mintex 1166 or for track use F4R.

Grooved rather than drilled discs is the way to go.

I recently changes my pads on the rear to EBC yellowstuff, and they have caught me off guard a couple of times since when cold - feel quite wooden and not much feel. Im considering changing the complete set in time, so will take the advice on here.

Maybe i just dont drive her hard enough hehe

I very recently replaced my Tuscan discs (after 40k miles) with new Tuscan "S" spec discs with Ferrodo pads all around. Too early to tell but initial feel is a lot more responsive. Cost was not ludicrous at all.

Spot on assessment. The originals on mine rumbled and grumbled from cold hated them, changed to ds2500 6 years ago and no reason to consider anything else since as they do everything I want for the road so well.

Plus they are cheaper than the standard TVR ones.

Ok, so I've decided I'll probably get a set of discs from Dom at Power. Anyone have the part code for a set of DS2500 pads? Also a good supplier if possible? My car is a standard Mk1.
Cheers
Phill.

I've just been on Balance Motorsports website and they haven't got any for a Tuscan. Do we use the same pads as an early Cerbera?

Cerberas and Tuscans up to 2001 used the same AP Cp5200 calipers. I think the part number for these is FRP216H.

I'm trying to work out what pads i've got in mine. They were fitted when i got the car and theres no visible part numbers or brandings, anyone be able to guess what they are?

Wouldn't mind a more aggressive pad but obviously need to know whats in there first.
