Tuscan not well...
Discussion
Tuscan isn't well atm.
Fancied a change so shipped it up to Str8 Six this morning as opposed to my normal garage, its always good to compare the competition
Jason comes across well so feel it's in safe hands.
Just looking out from the office window at my courtesy car.....
some hyundai or daewoo silver thing, looks a bit like a radio controlled car! mind you it seemed enormous inside after driving the Tuscan.
Anyone else had this sporty little number for a few days?

Uh oh... the secrets out! People travel from all over the UK to take their car to Jason and the team not for the service or the expertise, but to have a go in the infamour Perodua!
If I remember... this car had a whole "spotted" thread of it's own.
My car is up there at the mo waiting to get the engine out...yours must have sympathy pains and has gone up to help!
Oh, and when you leave work... the car's the silver one on the right, not the red one on the left.

This one is automatic. Not sure on engine size but would be very suprised if over 1.0lt
Although last night to its credit I took a newish BMW with tinted windows at the lights
I snuck up under the radar alongside, I looked over and gave the young chap a nod, should have seen the suprise on his face when I left that sucker for dust
I admit to knowing the lights like the back of my hand, so could anticipate the change

Ah the silver one, is that the one with the manual box? We had the automatic red one with the black roof last year, great drive back to Hampshire, SWMBO'd refused to join me on the return trip, oh well every cloud......
The silver one is Auto. I had this one for a couple of weeks over Xmas a few years ago and nearly parked it into Jasons wall as I had never driven an auto before!
Thinking of returning to the fold next year as I really should never have sold my Tuscan. The amoount of times I actually use the rear seats in the Tuscan replacement does not warrent having them really. Great car though the Porsche is, it does lack the visual presence of the TVR.

Only ever driven the red one...its an 'event' just like a TVR
whats up with the Tuscan Jon?
Tuscan been playing up for a while Rob, something wrong with the fuse board. The relay for the fans keeps shorting and clicking, also the car was overheating because of this, fuel pump was playing silly buggers as had to occasionally remove fuel pump fuse if it flooded from stationary. When the fuse board started shorting caused all my lights to flicker.... bloody pain in the backside.

So took it to Jason to sort out. Trouble is I have just had a word with him and he cant find anything wrong with it

It was playing up really bad on the way to airport and fuseboard shorting continually. When I went to retrieve the car on Sunday I was waiting around in Airparks carpark at Gatwick for about an hour until some chap sheepishly came in to tell me he couldn't get it started (as I expected) So when I went to retrieve the car with him I noticed it was parked in the multi-storey part of their premises under cover for a week.
The fusebox has hardly played up since. So... I'm thinking there may be water ingression somehow onto the fuseboard. As although at home I cover it, water still gets in through the cover as its not the most expensive cover (maybe time to fabisol it)
Remedies are, Jason is commissioned to now fix all door seal leaks and is keeping it for a while longer to see what's what, thats the good news.
Bad news is the Perodua Kenari is all mine until late next week

Anyway some figures to cheer me up:

Fuel Syste: Electronic sequential fuel injection
Suspension
Front: MacPherson strut, independent coil spring, anti-roll bar
Rear: Semi-trailing arm with 3-link location, coil sprung beam
axle
Turning circle: 4.6 metres
Wheels/tyres: 4.5J with 155/65R13

Extra-urban (mpg): 46.3

sounds very annoying and one of those things thats difficult to find! Could be all sorts from a sticking relay to dry solder joints, solder bleeding between pcb strands etc etc...pain in the @ss. be interesting to hear what the problem was, and if it is water ingress, where it was getting in, cause it isnt immediately obvious how water would get to the fuse box (without it being very clear to you that there was a leak!)
You're in good hands, hopefully they can work out what is wrong. I had something similar with my Mk1 - I'd be driving along and then the electrics would cut out and then back in, quite fast, lights going on and off, relays clicking etc for a second and then go. Turns out it was the speedo sensor failing. Eventually it went up in a puff of smoke. Ah the good old days when you couldn't get replacement parts that worked. I think I got through 3 or 4 speedo sensors and 7 oil pressure sensors whilst I owned that car.......

Interesting.....mine has been doing this and the speedo sensor is a bit dodgy. Must get it changed at the next service.Any progress Jon?
Interesting i noticed this morning (since reading your post) that my whole dash flickers occasionally (in fact feels like all the power to the car flickers), and you hear a relay - think its the fans, but temp was indicating 88 - but i have a TVR Power chip so maybe they come on early or the in car display wasnt accurate. Its quite a severe, i wonder if the fans have an affect?
Maybe not related to your incident, but it seems they have a hugse start-up drain.

Progress is slow and the Perodua is still in my possession Interesting i noticed this morning (since reading your post) that my whole dash flickers occasionally (in fact feels like all the power to the car flickers), and you hear a relay - think its the fans, but temp was indicating 88 - but i have a TVR Power chip so maybe they come on early or the in car display wasnt accurate. The engine didn't need to be up to temperature to have a problem with shorting on the fuse board. Sometimes it would short on startup even and its pretty cold then. The reason I know its the fan relay is because I put my hand under the dash and could feel it shorting on that particular relay, also when dark had a look under there to see it shorting (a flicker of electricity through the plastic) so clearly shorting in this area.
Remember though Rob, if your whole pod flickers (shorting) it is highly likeley that all you other electrics including your lights will be flickering too. HIDs won't but I bet you £1 that your rear lights and brake lights are.

Hmmm...let me know the outcome then...you're right, its something i need to keep my eye on! The engine didn't need to be up to temperature to have a problem with shorting on the fuse board.
