Hi Everyone, picked my car up todaysmile!!. Went to fill up and guess what? boot wouldn't open, with tank on empty (although at first I couldn't tell if it was full or empty)thats some fuel gauge!! and over 100 miles from home, panic started to creep in, after half an hour of fiddling I noticed that the pasenger door wouldnt open either. So unlocked the door from inside and then the boot opened, relief.
Had a super journey back not getting over 70, really need to get used to it. So stand by for all the daft newbie questions I shall no doubt be posting at some point.
However if any one has hints, advice things you have found during ownership, breakdowns that you rectified on the spot, really anything you may think will be of use to me, PLEASE feel free to email me and let me know. Nothing helps more than experience, and although I had a chim before for 6 years, this could be a different game.
Also want to say thanks for those in the Northants area who let me have a look round their cars prior to me buying, thanks guys!
TIA
Paul

Hi Paul, sounds great, hope you have fun with it!

Tip? Use it at least once a week to keep everything running sweet!

Tough job, but someone's gotta do it!

Paul,
Re the boot - I'd look at fuses (above drivers right knee). The passenger door and boot are linked. Might be the door ecu's which are under the centre console - just behind the 'ash tray'. You can swap drivers door to the passenger side to prove if the ecu is playing up.

For general Q's & A's take a look at www.mytuscan.co.uk ,site has got some good information .

Just a quick one - sounds like what happened to you is the same as happened to me. If you press the red immobiliser light to the left of the steering wheel then you activate the "anti hijack" feature as it's sometimes called that locks the passenger door and boot from the outside. Pressing it again should disable.

The clue is that both the boot and passenger door stopped working at the same time.

The Mk1 owners handbook mentions it on Page 36 "Internal door look switch".

When I think back, just before I drove off I touched that button without realising what it was. So it seems it may well have been the cause, lesson learnt

Congratulations on your purchase. Always good to see another Tuscan owner on here.

As mentioned above, try to use it regularly. The ones that are used seem to have less niggles & make sure you follow the warm up procedure.

I'm sure you'll be aware that the Tuscan has a dry sump & therefore oil needs checking when upto temperature & immediately after turning off the engine.

Have fun!

^^^^ Good call! Had exactly the same happen to me early in Tuscan ownership. On mine both the doors were disabled and I was standing there like a lemon frantically trying to get in!!

Well at least the good news for the OP is that if this is the case, there's nothing wrong with his car. Congratulations on the purchase - It's something I hope to achieve in the next few years. thumbup
