Hazards not working
Discussion
Hi Everyone
First newbie question. My car is an early 2000,and to start with the LCD menu switch needs to be turned and not pushed as per handbook, is this ok on early cars?.
Secondly my hazards are not working, if i push the hazard button i get a red glow around the button and when i turn the LCD menu button the screen changes, however if i push the hazard button again the red light goes out, this time when I turn the menu button the LCD screen will not change. Weird. So are the two related in anyway, is there a separate relay for the hazards?. All indicators work as normal.
Any advice please
Paul

Has it been like this since you got the car? If so then one possibility is that the dash has been removed at some point and fitted slightly incorrectly. From the symptoms described it sounds like one of the connectors has been positioned one pin out.
If you remove the dash housing by removing the screws that hold the top cover on, there is one on each side, then lower the steering wheel coloumn and then the top part should be free to come off, be careful as the RPM change up lights are connected and the cable will need to be removed, it should just pull out of the printed circuit board connector and can only go back in the right way round.
Once this is out of the way you will see a ribbon cable on the right hand side which is mounted behind the hazard light switch, the ribbon cable is mounted vertically. It is this cable that can be positioned wrong, ie one pin too high or low. I only know as i have done it myself.
Just carefully remove and refit this connector. You can check to see if it has worked before you refit the dash housing.
I hope this helps, and if you need more info just ask.

Hi Rich
Thanks for that, you were right. Top pin was exposed. I actually spent about half an hour last sat trying to get the cowling off and gave up. Didn't think to drop the steering wheel
. Anyway did it tonight in five mins. Hazards now work and menu button pushes to scroll through screen. Only thing is that the hazards don't work if ignition is off. Not too concerned at the moment but something to look at later. Thanks once again
