Right, i'm going to start attacking my winter project list, first thing on my list is upgrading my door cards, rear speaker panels and headlining to Alcantara,

Now I've tracked down some good heat resistant glue but i'm having fun and games tracking down some genuine Alcantara, i'm looking for gray/dark gray and unbacked so it's a bit more flexible.

Thanks, Mr C

Funnily enough i'm doing exactly the same.

Give martrim a call, very reasonable prices too.

I plan to do door cards and speaker panels in black leather. I am interested to know whether you will sand off the flock or glue over it?

What ever you do, DONT glue over the existing door card material. I did and then realised that when putting it back together the squeeze to get the card back into the door frame was too much, and had to remove and start again. Luckily only did one door before the other.

Curdster: yes your right, the bds won't go back in, i was wondering why while doing a test fit hehe

However when the card sits under that metal trim you have about 10mm hidden, i (very carefully) cut a line along the top of the door card so it now slots in, its pretty tight but hey thats better than flapping about hey.

With regard to leaving the flock on: well i heard the flock was really hard to get off so i left it on.

Advantages of this

Door cards have a nice soft touch to them, imagine just putting 0.8mm thick material on a fibreglass door card, especially one you tried to sand down and inevitably wouldn't be flat, it won't feel very nice to the touch. Mine now feel plush.

You wouldn't have to spend potentially days sanding off the flock (which i hear doesn't sand well).

For me so far so good, the quality of what i have done is on par with the best in there and in places much better, for instance my seat backs were terribly trimmed, i could see the folds in the vinyl frown now they look great.

I have used a high temp contact adhesive from martrim, only time will tell if its good but i will say that once its gone off the only way your going to get the material off is by slicing sections with a very sharp blade and then tugging the hell out of it to remove, so we should be good. Its a lot harder to get off than the original vinyl put it that way.

£45+vat a linear m so you get 1.4x1m for that.

I have bought 4m to do dash,door cards,roof,rear speaker panel i've made.

Looks great and sorry my post was a bit too late. Pleased you got it sorted. I only did the door card and not the leather pockets which need doing this year. Have you got a good supplier of leather for those bits. Noticed your centre console in cream. Is that leather, as it looks like the same colour of my own centre console.

The console is vinyl and the colour is portland grey (well the leather seats are portland grey and this matches)

I just gave it a good scrub though i would like to get it re trimmed too.

Looks very good. How many metres for the door cards and speaker panels? I was thinking of doing the door cards with foam first then leather or alcantara to make it soft to the touch. Comments noted about tightness of fit!

Looks great mate, i'm just trying to track down a nice gray, so far i'm at 60+vat per meter.

Which contact adhesive did you use, spray or brush on? smile
