Hi All, just got back from the Autosport show and saw a very nice 2003 Tuscan, the owner was a nice chap and we had a good chat, his car had the flip bonnet conversion which did look good. However I noticed that his service bonnet had a gas strut stay. I forgot to ask if this was part of the mod or not.
So, does anyone know if this is part of the flip mod or was it standard on later cars, or has anyone fitted a gas strut to their service bonnet.
Thanks Paul

I wouldn't say it's part of the flip bonnet conversions that i've seen, unless you mean that this one was hinged together with the main bonnet, so they both raise at the same time?

I guess there's nothing stopping you putting a gas strut on the service bonnet as well, although it would mean changing the mounting point on the connection point to the car.

Did you get any pics?

I don't think it was part of the flip mod, as the service bonnet was raised in the normal way. Didn't get any pics. It just seemed a neat little idea, I should have looked more closely, but I didn't want to take up too much time

My favourite one is the plasticman mod. See this thread:

Give Surface and Design a ring, they're the ones that did Mike's conversion who I think it was who you talked to.

Have to say that does look very good, the Tuscan I saw it looked like the normal service bonnet stay has just been replaced by a gas strut. It could be an easy job to start with, leaving the main bonnet for a later job.

Yes they are Leven ones, I could only get the anodised ones at the time..they are pretty rare nowadays..Not sure if PPC are doing a new batch... On a Convertible or MK2 with electo-hydraulic PAS, the MK1 Tuscan cap will not fit, but the engine oil one fits both PAS and Oil...So I have two engine oil caps smile .

That engine bay is the very reason why I WON'T be doing the flip bonnet conversion.

I have no suitable superlatives to offer.
