Hi all, while trying (unsuccessfully) to repair my display, I noticed that the first (i.e. furthest forward) PCB has a component missing.

On the PCB it says 'Caution - hot. Item is 27mm from pcb' - or words to that effect.

Can anyone tell me what this component is? I'm guessing a resistor, but what value and wattage please?

And what's it supposed to do? smile

(BTW: I took out the display PCB, removed the LCD panel, cleaned the contacts, but its still not working properly. New display module for me, I think)

Thanks

Andy

Ah a 5-watt 47-ohm resistor!

Wonder what it does.

Thanks!

I know the circular one next to it is for the dash buzzer i.e when the indicators are on. Not sure what the one you have missing is for although mine broke off and made no obvious differences. I soldered it back on and still don't know!

Well a resistor like that is often a current limiter or a voltage dropper. But with both these, if it was disconnected, something would not work!

SO its strange that its absence seems to mae no difference!

Come to think of it, do the led lights on your wing mirror control, on the driver's door light up, could it be for this?
