De-Cat Sound Clip or Info Request
Discussion
Anyone got a sound clip/youtube clip or experience of de-cat with a standard exhaust? Currently have CC's on but think they may be a bit too loud, so having kept my standard cans can go back, just want to weigh up my options.
Also where did you get your pipes from? Done some internet searches on well known TVR parts suppliers and there seems to be several choices out there ranging from £167 up to £345
Thanks in advance.

The first clip is sleeved cans and decat. I think a bit tinny

To be honest, it is a little loud. I just drove back from Germany at the weekend and have 60% decided to put the cats back in. My Wife likes it as it is I have the Powertech cans fitted at present, just thought it may be a bit too loud with a de-cat, but yours sounds ok so.................

Err fairly vocal is probably the best way to describe it

sometimes I think it's a bit much like when I can't hear the SatNav etc. or a long journey, other times I find it fine
Funny you should mention your Wife liking it, because mine does too, especialy when it pops back on overrun
Here's the only clip I have ouside the car, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJME51JU0yg ignore the RR figure it's a lot healthier than that
and one from inside, go to about 2 mins in and onwards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pvfj6mE2Fmo there are others posted too but gives you an idea.
The full de-cat always sounds a little buzzy, I've left the cats in on mine and removed the rear silencers and replaced with straight through tubes. I think it's a good balance with the sleeved rear cans:-

Not great clips for the exhaust-only sound, but you'll get the idea.
Picture of the new tubes:-

No worries about the MOT and loads of pops and bangs too

Andy,
Have you still got the original cans?
If so, you could put them back on and get them sleeved - as someone has mentioned here.
I've done this to mine, and hence have got the option of removing the sleeves if needs be.
I did go down this route when I left for the Nurburgring trip in August, with an 0530 depart (respect the neighbours) in order to meet up with some folks from E'bourne at the Tunnel. They came out easily using a bit of scaffold tube as a drift, and once home, have replaced them.
I used thin wall stainless tube to the dimensions on www.mytuscan.co.uk. Gives you a choice at least!

Nick,
Still got the standard cans, kept them for track days etc., so like you suggest gives me the option of sleeving. I think the Powertech cans may be a bit louder than sleeved due to having no wadding between the layers, but as always happy to be proved wrong
When the time comes, i.e. if/when the funds are agreed and released to me
, I'll play around with the different options, just never knowingly heard a standard system de-catted.
Catch up soon,
Cheers

Hi Cats
I had them custom made by Advanced Automotive Systems in Newcastle, they have done a couple of Tuscans and their work is excellent as well as being competitive on price.
I don't think they're available off the shelf but any decent exhaust fabricator should be able to fabricate them, just make sure they get put a replacement hanger so there isn't any strain on the rest of the system.
Bottom line is that i love the noise of the car, it's just on the wrong side of offensive

power tech sounds great !
For what its worth i have a full decat and ccc loud cans. The full decat however was bespoke made by the elusive Edward Quick and ive never heard another six like it. As ive said a hundred times.. at around 3500-4000 it really sounds like italian exotica. i will try and organise a clip to join the tuscan noise fest !

I just cut my rear silencers off due to broken welds and was surprised to see there was no silencing at all inside. I.e. pipe in stops once inside oval casing, then pipe out for carbon can. So is that normal. Is it just a resonator with no silencing capabilities?.Picture of the new tubes:-
