two weeks with winter tyres
Discussion
Had some winter tyres put on some 16 inch spiders. Pressure 24psi all round and job's a good un.
Impression so far:
More comfortable ride on 16s
Very vague at speed until I remembered to take out the spacers!
Still possible to spin the wheels and skid(!)
Awesome grip on the wet and ice.
All in all on my early mk 1 still better feel and accuracy with the 18s and Toyos with spacers. Roll on the warmer weather

Been running Conti 830 winters on my Tuscan the past 2 winters. Kept to the 18" size and the difference is minimal day to day.
The winters ride better and have lower rolling resistance which saves a bit of fuel, but only when pressing on is any squirmyness noticable. The traction in the cold and wet is phenomenal. It's also great on snow and ice but that goes without saying.

I've been running my BMW328 on winter tyres for the last two winters. With a powerfull rear wheel drive car it makes ice/snow covered roads passable which I was getting stuck on three winters ago. If I was going to use my Tuscan in winter it would be a no brainer to get a spare set of wheels and to swop them for a few months. Instead the Tuscan stays nicely tucked up salt-free in the garage

.2 years on winter tyres on the Sag, this year with winters on one of the BMWs and in the cold/ wet/ snow etc they are great.
In the recent snow the BMW with the winters went everywhere without a problem, the one on new summer tyres couldn't manage the slope on the drive.
For anyone who uses there pride and joy during the cold months let alone in snow and ice, a second set of wheels with winter tyres is a must IMO.
