I am looking for a Tuscan S or Red Rose spec (mandatory is the short shift gearbox) below 17000 for my brother. (we were just too late for the Red rose at bespoke...) so if you have or know one please let me know.
thanks !

Not all red rose had cr box, mine didn't.

I'm also not sure if every s would either as it was apparently common for cars to be fitted with whatever was there but I think an s is far more likely to have it.

thanks mr3, you are absolutely right but for me the cr box is mandatory, or I will have to buy cheap and replace the gearbox, wonder if anyone has ever done this...

Is the CR box that different? I've never tried one before.

The first three gear ratios are different giving higher speed/RPM , although you have to have the correct differential ratio fitted i.e. 3.73 to 1 rather than the standard 3.45. As for if was fitted on your Tuscan S by the factory , this was definatly hit and miss, I think I just got lucky with mine.

Ah I see, thanks for that.

Graaf - why is it so important? Using it for something special?

Mine is an S, and it does not have the close ratio gearbox. The garage that checked the car before I bought it told me that is was indeed a case of what type of gearbox was nearer to the car at the time it was built.. So here you have it...!

When i got my red rose i asked if it was close ratio, he said yes. Well a quick blip in second confirmed it wasn't.

Anyway i have thought of having one fitted but theres one thing i cant get my head round.

Say i'm doing 80 and want to drop into the powerband, well with the existing box and 3.73 i'd drop into 3rd which would put me just slightly below but still in a good position. However if it was a cr i would have to drop into 2nd which tbh just doesnt sound right hehe
I guess you would also be in 1st gear a lot too which just again doesnt sound right, 50 in first?

I'd love to have a go in one to see what its like, for now the normal box i am content with but always looking to improve.

I did compare both and I found that with the cr box the outline of the gears is better and distance in the box itself is shorter (thus not moving and arm length as if I am driving a truck :-) ): on the other hand it seems there are a few hundred different set ups so I might have just driven a good one....

I always thought the actual throw itself was the same, mine is pretty short tbh and probably the nicest feeling box i have used in terms of throw.

Would like to try a cr i must admit. 100 in second does sound like fun biglaugh

Unless its for the different rear end styling im struggling a little why you would be so focussed on an 'S'?

Prey tell!!

Performance wise, not much in it (they are all quick!), and if it were me i would be far more focussed on an engine rebuild, late clutch, good chassis, handling upgrades etc etc etc....

Its a tad over 60 in first and 100ish in second and its a sound akin to sticking a firework up a wild cats rear end and yes its worth having !!! (all on private roads of course)
