Went to start the Tuscan this morning and the clutch pedal felt a little soft.

Started fine as ever, went to put it in gear at which point I realised that there was no way I could select any gear at all.

Switched it off and tried to select a gear - goes in fine. Started it, pulls forward fine. No gear selection possible when running.

I am guessing this is cylinder related (master?) rather than clutch itself - had a new clutch last year but haven't used it much recently so it has been sitting not moving.

Secondary question: what is the best way of getting it to a garage - I am guessing AA would take me there? is this true?

Hi Bob

Sounds like your clutch fingers have snapped. Happened to me a few months ago and got exactly the same symptoms. It's a known weak point with the clutch in Tuscans.

All I can suggest is shop around (my bill came in at £1,500! Notice some well known specialists quoting half that) and make sure they replace the spiggot bearing (think it's called that?) when they change the clutch. I had to have my gearbox removed again when the garage realised that this part needed changing on the test drive.

Sorry, just reread your post and realised you had the clutch changed just a year ago. In which case hopefully it's not the fingers! Although like I said, my symptoms were identical to yours.

First point of call is to check the clutch fluid reservoir behind the pedal box. If it's empty/low top up and get jumping to see if you can regain clutch movement, it is possible that the new seals in the slave cylinder could be duff.

If for some reason you did need to change the clutch again? Dom at TVR Power is doing a very good deal on clutch changes, advertised in the TVR SPRINT magazine! smile

Seems like this is a likely candidate - I am hoping as the clutch is only a few thousand miles old that this is the reason.

I am going to have a look and top up the slave cylinder to see if this is it.

Cheers Bob

Hmmmm, so inspecting the slave cylinder shows that fluid is present and not particularly low.

I started her up again this evening and pumped the clutch pedal a dozen times and managed to get it to go into gear.

Some more pumping and selecting and all seems well. Took it out for a spin and after 5 minutes or so it was as good as new.

So the moral of the story is use it more in winter I guess....

so is £427 the offer on the back of sprint? i saw winter last year Dom was offering clutches at £699+VAT fitted. At the moment the only offer i can find is £800(odd)+vat for the clutch kit and lightened flywheel..but thats supply only i think.

Sounds to me like you've got some air in the hydronic hose going from the master to slave cylendar. Id get the garage that did the install to bleed the system for you.
