Exhaust can removal.

I'm having a lot of difficultly removing the exhaust cans from the silencer boxes. I've soaked the joints in WD40 and had the car up on a lift with two of us applying quite a bit of force, but they won't budge. I don't really want to cut them off so they can't be re-used. Anyone got any ideas?

The only advice I can think of is to make sure you're twisting the can in order to try to release the joint, rather than just pulling the can directly off. They are generally a tight fit, and if the joint is corroded then it may need quite some twisting force to help it budge.
If you really get stuck then rather than cutting them off, i'd put a cloth around the back end of the can, and tap with a rubber mallet a few times to try to release it.

If they have been on for a while then they can be hard to pull off. As above a twisting movement and a pull seems to do the job, plenty of wd40 and releasing the ends a little helps, other than that you just need to keep at it!

Try spraying PlusGas dismantling lubricate around the joints, leave to soak in for about ten minutes then try again. As previously said twist rather than pull, or try rocking up and down, side to side before twisting.

Worked for me and I found PlusGas worked better than WD40 for this sort of thing.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago! I got under the car made a metal plate to protect the body and then subjected each can to a lot of heat and sprayed WD40 then wiggled until the cans came loose (do one at a time). It will let go eventually, what I do now with my new cans is pull them off and clean and grease so it won't happen again.

I haven't tried it, but what about using one of thos strap type oil filter removal tools?

Put the strap around the 'end-cap' and start twisting? I used a bit of 4x2 to start mine off.
It is a case of trying to break the exhaust putty that most folk seem to use.
