Hi all,
All of a sudden I'm struggling to close the drivers door properly. Heights seem correct, it's latching on the first bit so you can't open it but isn't shutting properly after that.

I gave it a rather painful slam to get it shut for the night but don't want to open it again as I don't want to damage it!.

Height of door looks fine so guessing its the mechanism.

Anyone have any ideas??

Could mean the door needs repositioning. I have to do this on my Sag occasionally. Something to do with the fibreglass shifting under the door weight.

Else might be the solenoid.

Maybe worth checking the pin in the end of the door hasn't moved. It screws into a sliding plate inside the door so if it loosens it can move.

I penned the reply to PhilT on the TVRCC site.

IMHO, it may not be door alignment. I'd "re-create" a door shutting operation with the door open, but using a screwdriver...or something, to 'push' the latch into the closed position. I'd eyeball this operation closely to see the action of the latch...it may just need some lubrication.

The latch should move through 90 degrees to fully close - and then trigger the micro-swithch (check to make sure the 'blade' on the m-switch is aligned properly) to signal the door ecu/lift window. You might see more of whats going on by removing the stainless 'beauty cover' over the mechanism (held by 3 off small self-tappers).

If the mechanism work smoothly using this method then, yes, it may be an alignment problem.

Thanks for that. Will have a look tonight.

Spoke to racing green from whom i bought the car. they have saide it will most likely be 1 of 2 things...

it may be as simple as the emergancy door leaver in the footwell has been knocked and is not fully pushed in which would cause issues,

otherwise, it could be that the latch mechanism has come loose and needs tightening, which is a quick job of taking off the cover plate and tightening the latch mechanism which can work look over time.

results to follow...!

Hi, - hadn't considered the emergency door pull in the footwell..but, yes it could be that. IIRC, the door pull should return fairly easily by itself...but each car is different - & might need a bit of lube in the cable.

Also, hadn't considered the catch mechanism either. That's held by 3 (?) capscrews under the stainless cover. Looks like you'll have a couple of hours playing with door locks soon then ;-).

Happy to report a quick and easy fix, couldnt have taken more than 4 minutes in total! 3 capscrews out and cover plate off, quick adjustment of the mechanism with the allen keys, then plate and screws back on - Jobs a good'n! thanks for the help!
