Red 06S at Hexham Horseless
Discussion
I've seen the car many times in the flesh and it's stunning, certainly nothing that would put anybody off buying it if they actually viewed the car. That said I've not driven it but would be amazed if Tony would leave anything in his showroom that wasn't 100%. HHC has a solid reputation and Tony Abrams is very well respected.
The main problem I see is a geographical one, we're not seeing any signs of any economic recovery up here so local sales are still limited, and those who are financially optimistic are Southern based and are often reluctant to travel to the wilds of Northumberland to view a car. Maybe a little generalisation, but top-end Tuscans like this do seam slow to shift up here.
HHC had a Sagaris for sale a while ago and it was slow (compared to others) to shift. That was also red, and also very well priced but hung around for ages compared to the cars being sold in the South for example.

I know it sounds weird, and I love the colour myself, but I think bright Red puts some people off. A couple of my friends were after Tuscan's and I showed them that car on PH, and both of them said 'noooo, not Red'....
I also think that at close to 40k a lot of people would put in an extra 5k or whatever and see a Sagaris as a safer buy......

I've seen one of these in the flesh, looked lovely!
I wonder maybe the pictures just don't give the same wow factor as in person.
My experience of them isn't as great, I went to see a Tuscan S, after some communication and traveling a long distance I was met with 'oh you want to test drive it', was not impressed to say the least. What's more I was not overly impressed with the condition of the car (needed quite a bit work to take it to a good standard) and tbh it was overly priced.
Please note this is my personal opinion and only based on my encounter so I am not going to argue.

Daft as it sounds I do agree. I love the looks of the car but would myself never buy on ein that colour. I know a lot of other TVR owners who also share the same feeling but like the car to look at rather than buy.I also think that at close to 40k a lot of people would put in an extra 5k or whatever and see a Sagaris as a safer buy......
I have to agree with WEEMAN I saw that car and the other red S Tuscan that was there at the time. I my opinion the cheaper of the two red Tuscans was the better of the two cars, far better bodywork. They have been on sale now for almost a year, the expensive one to me was nice but I would have wanted it to have been perfect for that sort of money. I travelled up from London to see the cars and was not offered a test drive or encouraged to buy it, maybe that's the way they sell the cars.
I eventually picked up a very nice Tuscan S for 29k which I felt was good value for money, which had 5000 miles on the clock.

I think thats a little unfair. Whilst I haven't done business with Hexham (as yet), I've spoken to Tony and I found him to be 100% genuine and straight forward type of guy. And certainly the feedback that I hear from other TVR enthusiasts that have done business with him, is that he is a true decent gent.
You have to bear in mind that TVR's are not Ford Focus's and like a lot of dealers, any blemishes, wheel scuffs, stonechips or other issues are usually dealt with after a car has had a deposit placed on it, and before the customer collects it - as a lot of customers will want specific alterations/additions done at the same time. In some respects, I would much prefer to see a car before 'preparation' because you get to see the 'true' car and get a feeling for how the previous owner treated it.
As far as test drives are concerned, and I can only go on my own personal (private sale) experience, but when I've sold TVR's in the past, if someone turned up and straight away was saying things like its not worth the money or it needs a full respray and other such negative comments, then there is no way that I would waste my time letting them take the car for a spin. I'm fairly sure that TVR/other specialist dealers with limited resources and personnel, must operate a similar policy and gauge almost straight away if the buyer is serious or not.... (I'm not saying that this is the case here, but you get my drift....)
