The noises we all listen to
Discussion
Like any Tuscan owner I drive with the temp screens displaying and my ear tunned into the engine. I have been messing around with oils recently and now have in 5w 50, before it was 5w 40 . I think there is more tappet noise with the 50. All levels checked ok. I am not wanting to start yet another oil thread so , do you have a view on tappet noise, I would have thought quieter with 50 than with 40 ?
Engine rebuilt 12k ago and serviced 750 miles ago with two shims changed.
Have I started to imagine the noise more ?
Thanks

Personally I try not to worry about the noise and just accept that's what they sound like. Before I bought mine I test drove one that had 500 miles on it since a power rebuild and it's the noisiest s6 I've heard but was obviously healthy.
Re oil I've had 10/40 and 10/50 fuly synth at the last 2 services, think the engine sounded marginally quieter on the 10/50 and also seemed to use less oil.

Thanks , had a good listen today with engine hot and a big screwdriver to my ear.
It is tapetts, and I am now not sure if any louder or quiter than when I had he car serviced 750 miles ago.
I may have a look at he top of the engine myself this week or just enjoy driving it about.
Just thought the heavier oil may have made it quieter but maybee not.
