A quick question re the rebuild threads !!
Discussion
Being lazy I cant be arsed to trawl through all the posts, but can anyone tell me whether engine probs have occured with all the SP6 variations or is a 3.6 likely to have more reliability issues than the 4ltr or vice versa. I suppose we should also include the RR as well. Sorry just interested.
3.6 has had much less problems than the 4.0 overall. However, if you compare 4.0s withs 3.6s from the point that the 3.6 came out (if that makes sense) the picture changes.
It really does look like:
1. People should put more miles on their cars so we can get better stats.
2. You'd be a bit crazy to buy a low mileage, pre 2002 SP6 that hasn't had at least one rebuild.
I'm of the opinion I was before I started all this off... If you've got an early engine with the known things sorted, or you've got a later engine you're in a far better place, but it ain't no Honda.
Having now got an Aug 2004 spec engine, I'm a happy (if poor) camper. It simply sounds more "Japanese" (although the exhaust doesn't
). New finger followers, new valve guides, new head gasket. Over the weekend it'll hit its thousand mile run-in, and I shall be giving it a harder thrashing than a public schoolboy that questioned "sir"s methods of teaching verb conjugation.

JSG the engine will not be properly run in until over 2000 miles, so I would gradually build up the revs from 1000-2000 miles......obviously though after the 1K service and tappet check (ensure this is done) you will definitely be able to give it some more welly than you have been and enjoy it more...

Yeah, I know there's no magic cut-off point... Keeping it to 3500 RPM 99% of the time has just been killing me, though (real frustration is on the motorway).
The trip counter's certainly not going to hit "1000" and suddenly I'll red line it, but at least I'll be happy to push it over the ton then when the need arises.
