Tuscan ACT Exhaust
Discussion
Can anyone recommend or comment on the ACT big bore exhaust and shark nose cans?
Mine is an S with the large bore TVR exhaust already so will there be any gains?
Not so much looking for performance gains but a bass improvement.
Do you need the whole exhaust or just the cans to get the deeper noise?
Really don't want motorway droning noise and will prefer to lose some of the higher frequency ear battering.

Hi Cats,
There are many threads concerning various Tuscan exhaust matters... - I have a IIS model.
I had an ACT full bore pipe fitted yesterday. I have also tried a variety of end cans over the years.
The quality of the ACT (JP) exhaust is excellent, and the staff too. Yes it does increase the bass (and remove the tinny sound) from the Tuscan. I'm running CCC fully-sleeved cans at the moment. For my preference though, it's not loud enough. I'm told there are "bullet"silencers in the ACT pipes, and the rear boxes also contain some muffling unlike the TVR ones... so it is quieter than the original. I did a couple of hundred miles yesterday and today and it is not noisy in the cabin - so should be just what you want.
My favourite combination personally so far is the original TVR pipe with CCC sleeved cans, but it is loud... too much so for many - especially those wishing to cruise quietly! Hence I'm going to be having some changes made to the ACT big bore pipe to remove some of the silencing. I do not wish to decat.
ACT/JP can make the shark-nosed cans with varying degrees of silencing.
Drop me a line if you wish to discuss further!

I have done this de-catted without the shark nose cans. The result is more bass and less metallic sound at low throttle/revs (which is less intrusive on motorway) and then when you open her up it is a fantastic sound. Imho money well spent.Mine is an S with the large bore TVR exhaust already so will there be any gains?

You need the whole exhaust to get that effect but you can retain the original cans. If you wnat louder than put CCC's on and that turns it up to 11!
Hi G,
Volume really is very subjective... but on my Tuscan IIs the ACT system is a lot quieter than the TVR original. The ACT system does get rid of the tinny sound though, and make the whole thing more bassy. As I say above, I'm running sleeved CCC cans with the ACT exhaust, but still have the cats in. I suspect many would consider it loud enough - but not me.
I like the tinny sound as it's this which turns into the real "furious wasp" sound on accelerating - though I appreciate many don't like this. The ACT system I had fit a few days ago has removed this and I need to get it back as well as increasing the overall volume level! As a test I removed the end cans completely - and was astounded at how quiet the ACT system is compared to the TVR original.
The original TVR S model exhaust had a section of increased diameter in the middle. The ACT does not have this, but I don't see that would make any difference. The ACT system is quieter because it has two areas of silencing which the original TVR pipes did not have - "bullet" silencers after the cat and muffling in the rear boxes (at least, this is what I have been told). I'm aiming to remove both these bits of silencing so that I can get back the original volume. As stated previously, I do not wish to remove the cats if I can avoid doing so.

Thanks for a good description of the sound/volume differences. I do like the "loudness" however the rear boxes are starting to fall apart a bit (been welded once or twice) so was looking at replacing.
I also like the raspiness but also fancied trying something different.
I suppose I could cut the boxes out and add a straight pipe then add Cats. Oh the choices.
Good luck with the tweaking of yours
Cheers

£29 in maplins
and i have used one alongside a £500 meter which reads about the same

Thanks to Mr Chips today I tried his already sold semi sleeved ACT cans. Only a short run around (about 5 miles) but what a difference - very bassy and sounding like a cross between a V8 and a Straight 6. It is exactly what (I think) I need. I have Blue Flame straight through cans and what I want to lose is the farting noise under initial acceleration and the ACTs do that without any apparent droning at motorway speeds.
Dave also let me try his new Powertech semi sleeved cans. Much quieter than my BF cans.
In both the alternatives there is a distinct loss of popping compared to what is on there but there is still an amount of popping but just not as loud but I think I have probably frightened enough cyclists and pedestrians for this lifetime!!
Whilst the Blue Flames were off it was evident that they resonate light a bell in a church tower.
Name that tune in four anyone!!!

SOrry didn't mean to hijack your thread earlier. Glad you have achieved a noise that you want to hear and live with

Just got home from Str8six after having my ACT exhausts and decats fitted. I'm over the moon, the sound is definitely deeper and sounds a lot more throaty now and not as high pitched as before. I have sleeved CCC's fitted and it is LOUD!!
The old exhaust was really beaten up and almost flat in some places as the car had been riding far too low and had obviously been patched up and welded by previous owners. With this new exhaust fitted the car feels far more responsive and not as wooly on acceleration. It was no slouch before but you can definitely tell the difference the exhaust has made.
