Discussion
hi guys iam very interested in a 2000 w reg tuscan 4ltr, my 1999 chim will be going as part x
the car is for sale at fenhurst tvr specialist £23995.
question
1. the car has 24000 miles it had a rebuild 1800 miles ago is this a good price,
2. ihave read the posts on rebuilds or no rebuild
which scared the life out of me what would the costs be if it blew up.as the car comes with a 12 month warenty but only covers the first £2000
3.does a tvr main dealer sell warrantys to cover engine blow ups.

Price is good for a dealer-sold car. Regardless of what they say, you've got a claim of "not fit for purpose" if it goes pop within six months. If it's only just had a rebuild I'd trust it, personally.
I'm sure they can arrange a better warranty for you, but most (or all) of them won't cover wear on the finger followers/valve guides/throttle bodies, which are what'll cause you engine-related headaches. I'd ask them to give me a 12/24 month no-quibbles warranty on the engine. And get that standard claim limit upped to £2k if you can to make sure it'll cover everything but the engine (although £1k will cover most items).

1 - define what you mean by "good" - it looks a reasonable asking price and depending upon "when" rather than "how many miles ago" it was rebuilt and for what it seems pretty good.
Plus Fernies are nice people to deal with and have a good reputation round these parts.
2 + 3 = "Hot potato"
You already know about TVR ownership - most warranties come with some sort of top limit. Yes a "rebuild" could cost more than the limit, maybe even 5-7k. But only you know whether you're going to be happy with ownership issues and whether you have enough float popped away for a TVR rainy day. You already know that they shouldn't be run on a shoestring.

no offence beano, but this is the sort of sh*te that gets on my t*ts.
24k is a lot of cash. You, the BUYER are the M A N.
You buy from a dealer, rainy day is irrelevant.
And this crap about somehow being a fool if you don't throw every penny you earn at the thing is madness too...

You go in there, offer to pay the list price (that blink they just did was surprise... they NEVER expect to sell at list) BUT.....(used to be a salesman so bare with me....)
1) they do the next service for free (cheap to them, expensive to you). Make sure you get all the info and parts from the service. think I'm kidding ? trust is earned not given. It was the NORM 20 years ago. Now we think 'oh I can't possibly ask for proof for how many shims they used'.... bo**ocks. when they earn the trust, you stop.
2) you ask for a 2 year warranty. don't f**ck about. make it clear, you don't get you walk. They are ten a penny at the moment. If you don't get dealer care for 2 years WTF are you paying dealer prices for??? Get a private one with a warranty with the same company they use. warranties are worth FA more that the cost of one privately. Speak to folk on the board if you seek proof.
3) you don't get it. fine. walk away.

Powerlord. You da M A N.

The quoted point above is the only one I'd disagree with - even now that there's a certain warranty company rep who's house I'd torch if he were ever unfortunate enough for me to track him down!
I've yet to buy a private warranty that hasn't more than paid for itself. Maybe it doesn't cover everything - and I can kind of see appreciate them crying "inherent defect" at the S6 engine - but you can make them pay for quite a bit.
If you're buying from a dealer, make sure they're not just going to palm you off to some other off-the-shelf warranty company - make sure it's THEIR responsibility if something goes wrong 364 days down the line.

that was what I was trying to say! pity you're not a burd.. think we'd get it on... (christ I have had too much to drink)
what happened to the good mood ? have to say, when mr ww showed his face I expected you to be biting at his throat......anyway my proof I alluded to was you: i.e. a warrantly is worth FA. don't matter if it's with a dealer or yourself..it's still with warranty company.
But yeh, I agree. that IS the added value, the problem is that THAT never gets written down with a dealer. For maybe 3 months it's inferred, after that warranty.
If a trevor garage had said to me.. buy from us and we will take care of you for 2 years.. here it is in writing... everything covered apart from standard servicing" I would have bit their arm off.
But they didn't. They offered dodgy weird warranties (based near the thames....), standard not here any more warranties (wh), and standard stuff I could get myself from the same place for 1/2 the price !!!!
So I bought private.

Good God, man... stick to the Kaliber - a couple more pints of wifebeater and you'll be taking a shine to the nearest coffee table leg. I can see that I'll have to keep a low profile at BT&P this year!

Speaking of which...

I've got each of their direct phone numbers whenever I want to give 'em grief - no need for the tinterweb where they might not appreciate the venom and malice in my every utterance (and where the post would get binned quicker than they can dispute a warranty claim).
