I've been advised that if you're careful they can be welded using a penny washer or similar as the bridging piece. I've not tried it yet but it is on my list of winter jobs!

It is do able, but you'll need to take the seats out and remove the head rest/bolster assembly from the rest of the seat. This will involve citing the diagonal stitching beneath the headrest. U'll also need a piece of glass liner backed aluminium piece of material to protect the seat foam from the hot welded metal. I dunked mine in a bucket of water to be safe! If u need any more pointers, drop me a line.
Cheers,
Martin

Be aware as well that the foam bolster is moulded onto the steel rods so any heat will transfer straight into the foam.

I did mine a couple of months ago but was having the seats retrimmed so sliced open the foam and re-attached once welded. I used much thicker steel plate as the original stuff isn't up to the job.

Thanks guys, I didn't buy the car in the end as we couldn't agree on a price. So possibly picking up my new toy tomorrow which 'doesn't' have broken seat bolsters! I'm sure there will be plenty more questions though!!!
