Hi Guys,

Went out for a quick drive earlier, having trouble with the car staying in first, once moving ok but getting into gear is proving tricky, having to hold the gear knob in place to keep it in place with a bit of grinding. the rest of the box is ok. hoping some adjustment to the clutch pedal.

there's no visable fluid leak under the car

Is this a common problem with the T5 Box?? any thoughts

Regards Jon

Clutch on the way out, or a gear that's about to break down, I'd say..

yup sounds like clutch, has it been tricky to get in reverse? my old Tam went about 850 miles after those symptoms.

Reverse seems ok, just first the problem at the moment, ive only had the car a couple of weeks, just finished rebuilding the front end, bought it with accident damage, was hoping to get a few more miles out of it before getting me hand in me pockets to find some change for a new clutch..

Make sure the gearstick is not fouling around the rubber gaitor or on the leather center console - if there is a restriction it may well be the gear is not being fully selected in the first place - thus allowing it to jump out when being put under load (a friend had this very problem with 3rd gear).

If you are happy tinkering around I'd suggest you remove the center console, this will give access to the rubber gaitor allowing you to ensure there are no restrictions - the car can be driven/tested with these bits removed.

Hopefully that may be a simpler and less expensive explanation.

Cheers
Richard

Thanks for the advice, hopefully it will be just something simple as a fouling gaiter or leather

I will have a play around this weekend.

regards Jon

Good Call Dickie Dastardly,

Took the centre console tonight pulled the rubber gaiter up out of the way, nice clunk as it falls into first.

Easy 15 minute fix, and cost nothing.

Regards Jon
