I am looking into changing my lights to Xenons. I have some queries; I can only seem to find BiXenon or Hi/Lo kits in H4 size (I believe this is the right size for a Mk1). Will these work as just dipped beam if just connected to the pre-existing dipped beam connections? About the light colour, has anyone got 6000K bulbs? are they too blue? Are 4300K bulbs much brighter? About the ballasts, where have people fixed them too? I see there are slimline ballast kits as well, anyone got these? Easy to fit?

6k is the colour you see on most BMW/Mercs/Audis. 4300k is a lot whiter.

When I fitted mine, I ordered them from Elise shop in the Netherlands (they have the correct light bulbs in dipped beam, Elise S1s have H4 bulbs). Sorry if that's a shameless plug, just sharing the info I have smile

I fitted the ballast to the sides, above where the "main beam" ballast were. Sorry, can't take a picture of it, as the car is in the workshop at Racing Green.

I have just fitted a replacement 6000K kit to my dipped beam and about to fit them to my main beam as well. I got the slimline ballast type and have cable tied them to the removeable panel on the inner wing. Don't forget to think about the sidelights as they are dim and don't look very good along side the HID's.

I will be out in my car tonight so will take a picture and post it later.

I believe the dip and main beam lights are H7's.

Might want to check out www.hidcity.co.uk

Thanks for that, I did wonder why all the H4 kits were Bi-Xenon, on one of the HID websites I put in the car make and model and it came back with needing an H4 kit.

What did you use for the sidelights? LEDs?

As per my post further down, someone suggested 501 LED so I fitted them last Saturday. They match the dipped beam.

Not the best picture, will take a daylight one at the weekend. You can see how much brighter they are compared to standard lights.

This is the HID kit I purchased for both dipped beam and main beam (main beam not fitted yet). If you order from them then you need to add a message stating which ones you want, mine are 35W,6000k and H7. The size of the balast is small so easy to find somewhere to fix it.

The side lights bulbs are the same as this. I got mine from a local motor factor place rather than eBay

The difference between standard bulbs and HID is well worth the cost if you do any driving at night. In the 4 1/2 years of having HID fitted I have not had any problems with the MOT or police.

If you order HID's above 6000k they tend to show a bluer light which I did not want.

Happy to help if needed.

Thanks.
I've seen your Tuscan a few times so I know you're local. Got the Main Beam factory fitted HIDs, and they work a treat but could do with more light on dipped beam..... agree that white light is much better than those bluer ones vomit so I'll keep less than 6000k biggrin

Hi Macey the price on those H7 hids is pretty dam. Whats the quality of them like? can you tell where they were made (not saying that affectths quality in any way, just curious)

Mine came with factory fitted hella HID's on the main beam but the dipped is a standard bulb and fairly crap.

I can't as I've thrown the box away but the set I bought to replace the main beam should be delivered today but at home, I can post once I get home and see if it lists where they were made, as for the quality, they seem to be well made with a small ballast.

They will be a cheaply made set from China, but I've used them in a few cars now and theyre spot on! There are more expensive sets on ebay around £50-£80 but I bet they're exactly the same!

I've got factory fitted DS2's in my main beam on my S and will be upgrading to a set of lights like the above for the dipped soon. I'm going for 4300k though as they are brighter.

Just opened the box at home and all writing is in English but I would imagine that they are made in China as Toady has said.

Not in a Tvr, but I've had 4300, 6000 & 8000k headlights.

I personally found 6000k tk be the best.

4300 didn't seem amazing and I found 8000k a touch too blue/almost hard to see the road with.

I've a set in my daily oil burner which has just blown on the n/s, turned out the ballast suffered water ingress so as well built as a TVR! ;-) I originally thought it was just the bulb so bought a spare set of 4300k's to replace the 6000k's to see if they were any brighter. I've yet to get some new ballasts to get them working again so can't say yet which colour temp is the brightest. If they turn out to be not as good as the 6000k's then I'll go for them in the Tuscan.

I've just ordered these, I'll let you know what I think! Bit more expensive but 55w opposed to the normal 35w, might be too bright for the roads!!! We'll see!
