Gents,

My alternator seems to be on its way out. I'm getting random voltage figures on LCD of up to 14.5V...so I'm guessing control module starting to go. Car is at 54K miles so a new alternator is/seems the best way to go?

I've googled this:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I'd just ask the question why the OP included a diode on the line to the "D" terminal?

Opinions please.

Brokedown on Sunday and limped home with an RAC mans battery in the passenger footwell and my Andersen jump lead through the window duct taped to the side of the car.

I wish I was getting 14.5 volts.....currently getting 11.8 volts with the engine running grumpy

Replaced the 7 year old battery, which is now knackered and still the same. Absolutely zero from the alternator...off to X-Works in the morning.

Stops the current flowing back (think of it as a none return valve) that why you see the posts about the dash lights being stuck on. The original TVR alternators had this in the diode pack.

Ah! Thanks for this Andy. I am aware of a diode's function - just didn't understand why one was needed in this instance.
The company referenced in the PH 'topic' seem very professional.
