Near disaster and morevstuff to do
Discussion
So, back in the TVR fold for a week and there is a suspicious smell in the garage. Turns out that the rear of the anderson connector had corroded and the unclamped non standard battery had shorted against the terminals causing a major melt down. All fixed now - new battery, clamp, repairs around the housing, all new cabling and connectors...A very near thing.
Now I have a list of stuff to do:
Clutch is very nearly shot - do I replace like for like or do I go for an uprated clutch? Not going to be taking it on a track. My preference is to replace with standard and to replace slave cylinder and seals at the same time. Any thoughts?
Geometry is a bit wayward, they tell me. I guess I'll let them adjust it and see if it improves.
Air con - I know it's a bit gay, but if it's there, I want it working. They'll pressure test and recharge - hope that's all it takes.
While they have it in bits, I'll put the cats back. Not sure whether there is any noticable performance benefit in decatting, but with a straight through exhaust, the noise is a little OTT. Still thinking about this, though!
So, I had put aside 5k for 'teething' troubles - didn't expect to get through most of it in the first couple of weeks!

Glad you caught the battery short before too much damage done. Mine resulted in the fire brigade and a 5k insurance claim for body off repairs.
The latest spec AP clutch is supposed to be improved to prolong life, along with the seals in the latest AP release. I'm not sure it's worth putting in an upgraded unit as I've never heard of anyone actually managing to wear the clutch out before the fingers go. A number of people rate the Raceproved slave but everytime I've needed one they've been out of stock so can't comment.
Decatting does give a small performance gain but the biggest benefit is lowering under bonnet and in-car temperatures.

Hey, I feel your pain, I had and am having the similar problem of getting through the TVR fund much faster than anticipated! Will all be worth it when summer is here though!
The only reason I had my car decated is because of the heat issue. I also had a heat shield fitted when it was in for a 12k service and it has made a huge difference to keeping the temperature down. Didn't notice any significant change in performance but it does pop and bang a little more, depends on your tastes in noise but I would leave it decated.
Enjoy the car, my Tuscan is my first and it's awesome!
Cheers
