Anyone order custom width numberplate?

I am looking to fit a UK Legal number plate to my Tuscan mk1 (bullet holes) and the place for the plate to fit is 17inches wide. From reviewing the regulations as far as I can tell this will still meet all the requirements to be legal.

Has anyone else done this and if so which plate maker did you use?

Hi Darren,

I have a shortened (length only) and legal number plate on my Mk2 Tuscan. (Ordered full size and did some self trimming)
The legal allowance of the number plate is 50mm of plate extending from the end of the letter to the edge of the plate.

For myself I have painted an aluminium plinth the colour of the car and mounted this in the number plate carrier.
You can then stick the number plate on the aluminium plinth and it doesnt look out of place.
