Hi

Since I;ve just taken off the back box from one of those stupidly high speed bumps (not speeding honest) Does anyone have any experiences with ACT exhausts and TVR Power shark cans?

Comments really appreciated....

Not sure you can still get the TVR Power shark nosed cans. I got some on ebay, but they are like hens teeth. http://web5.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=25... Carbon cans seem a popular option!

No experience of the ACT system, but I want one! I have been talking with Tim who seems very knowledgeable and happy to make bespoke to suit your requirements. Not cheap though!

I visited Magpie21 on the weekend and he's got the ACT system, and it did sound great. My mk2S exhaust has seen better days so I had been toying with the idea of getting a custom system made up but for the price of the ACT and the fact that it goes all the way back to the cats, it seems silly to experiment so much so I suspect i'll be putting an order in!

Can't comment on the Tuscan system per se but Tim is a top bloke.

I had problems getting the manifold to fit on one side of my Griff (the rear spark plug couldn't be inserted when the manifold was in place) and he sent me another one out straight away. When that wouldn't work either I took some measurements and he had another one made with a slightly different bend to suit, all at no charge.

Not the prettiest of things really but in my opinion a better bassier noise that the Blue Flame straight throughs I had on before.
Goes well with the OTT image of a TVR I guess. Looks better from the rear than side on.

Tim was a top bloke and would accommodate alternative removable sleeving if required

Blue flames do look good IMHO, if you can find a pair! Mine are perforated which aren't too loud, but still give pops and bangs.

Does magpie's car still have carbon cans on or have they been replaced for act cans. I spoke to you both at batersea park when you were looking at his car at last years TiTT's. I think magpie said it was decatted with carbon cans.

I was behind his car in parliment square and it was pretty loud. I had to keep checking my dash lights were on to tell if my car was ruunning lol

Yep decatted with CCC's. The problem is that CCC's can either be empty with no packing in between the sleeve and outer skin (makes it ludicrously loud!) or can have packing in between which will dampen it down a little, so in my experience, it's difficult to compare.

I've got some 80% sleeved cans from powertech which seem a great compromise on the std S system as they a little deeper than normal but still have a nice bark to them. I may get rid and go fully sleeved if I get the ACT system though!

Have to say, his car sounded just right when I saw it. Even though we have the same engine, mine sounds completely different!! (decats, std S system, and Powertech cans). I think it's the slightly smaller bore of the ACT system that helps, plus the rear boxes aren't empty, they have perforated pipe and wadding.

I've gone for the ACT system with straight throughs on the rear boxes, half perforated with removable sleeves on the cans, shark nose. tried getting blue flame but don't exist which is a shame since i destroyed them on mine. When Tim ships it all to me then I will report back on the noise.....hoping its loud.....

Sounds good. What do you mean by "straight throughs on the rear boxes" though?

I'm going to order mine tomorrow I think... we should have linked up and looked to do a deal on 2 systems!!

I had the ACT shark nose cans on mine, but with the decat and S system they were just too deep for me as I like the S6 raspiness!

the back boxes are only fitted so the back of the car looks correct. The actual exhaust pipe passes straight through the box with no perforations. therefore no muffling.

If that makes sense. Yes we should have talked earlier but it you speak to Tim now he is making 2 already so you might get a discount still!! lucky bugger if you do!!

Ah ok, I thought they were all perforated but I guess they can make them up how they need. Wonder why if its straight through, that they don't just use a 90degree bend on its own, like the RG system.

Does anyone know from memory....these do just clamp onto te cats don't they? i.e. my current S system will come off in one go and could potentially be resold?

The standard back boxes are simply a hollow shell (I even cut mine open to check) so dont even have pipes inside but according to ACT their system includes perf pipe through the backboxes. This makes sense if you want to dampen the noise/drone, but if the pipe is solid then I don't quite see what the purpose of the boxes would be as they'd just be encasing a solid pipe?

Well apart from hanging the boxes I think that might be the issue without a self made bracket or something like that but also I think something a little more solid for the cans..... Mine are going to be solid pipe through not perforated.

For me can't speak for others having back boxes just makes the car look right..... wish i had side entry ones like the sag they are cool!!!
