Hi all

My tintop is off the road, so today I drove from Cambridge to Bristol and back for business meetings.

Half way down the M4 (in the outside lane at an appropriate speed), the window suddenly wound down and the door openedyikes This happened three more times on the way back as well. Couldn't see any pattern (speed, road surface etc.) but when it happens it's scary.

Thinking about it:
- the solenoid fired but the door didn't open all the way, it only went to the second latch
- when I pulled over and opened and shut the door, the window didn't rise automatically (as it usually does)
- whilst moving, the door button didn't work (tried to release and shut whilst moving

My logic is that it is either the emergency release cable or a short somewhere between the controller and solenoid (or in the solenoid itself.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any other ideas?

I had a similar issue with my Tamora a few years back.
Midway through some spirited driving around country roads the driver's door popped open.

It was a door switch that had failed. Cost around £200 to have it fixed at Dreadnought in Callendar.

So not a big deal, probably.
Unless you've ruined your favourite trousers.....

Sounds like it may be an issue with the door micro switch under the chrome plate covering the door latch. I had the same symptoms when one of mine started playing up. It may be loose, there may be some water in the wiring or the switch may need replacing.

Had the same on mine. It turned out to be the door ecu. There are 2 located under the centre console. You can swap them over to see if the problem swaps too. I sent mine off for repair, cost £50 http://pselectronicsolutions.co.uk/repairs.html

Yes, my dear old Tuscan did this to me a couple of times. Nothing wrong, it just hated me sometimes.

After a month or so of the issue happening, it just stopped and worked perfectly.

She must have been PMSing...

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure it isn't the emergency release now I've tried it, so I'll have a look at the switch next and then the ECUs (good excuse to look at the radio and try and get a better signal).

Used to have this on my T350 and it was the buttons on the dash. I simply had to take them out and re-glue the plastic in the button.

For me the actual mechanical lock/ catch under the chrome plate had come loose and was triggering the micro switch. From memory I simply retightened a couple of Allen screws and job done.

Same thing with my old Tuscan and same repair.

I took the cover plate off last night, the lock bolts weren't loose as such but were only finger tight. the microswitch was in place but loose, getting to the little nut inside the B pillar was a sod, but I tightened that up and adjusted it. What was interesting was that when fiddling with the switch, the lock triggered and the glass dropped, exactly what was happening on the road, so the issue is there. It's all back together now, lets see how it goes once I can drive it again without skis fitted frown

Same symptoms I had when one of my micro switches started playing up only it was the middle of a rain storm so every time the window dropped I got a face full of rain. grumpy
