Done a quick search and came up blank. So do any of you exhaust gurus or someone with experience of, know what sort of noise level reading I can expect from a decatted 'S' exhaust system with original cans fitted? Got a track day with a 105dBA limit coming up.

Cheers

This might give you some help:

Think you'll be pushing it to make the 105db IMHO.

Where's your track day?

I did a day at brands hatch last year. Mines a standard tuscan, sleeved rear cans with cars and it did 105.4

So I doubt you'll even get close de catted. The static test there was done at 4500 rpm. You be surprised at the noise.

Yep, you'll really struggle to get anywhere close without the cats. Mine was 104Db with cats and std cans!

Have you still got the cats? If so then maybe look to put them back in for the day (check with Dom though as it may not be a good idea if it's been mapped for the decats). Else it's a quest to find some dB killer inserts that can go into the standard end cans. I haven't seen this done before so not sure if it's possible though!

Which track are you going to?

Have a chat with RMA track days - They had an event at Donington on 7 Mar where it was the last (IIRC) un-restricted noise event and as a consequence had a decibel meter so they could see what levels different cars were at. They might be able to offer you some advice. If you speak to Graham, say Phil from Odiham recommended them to you.

Thanks smile

Seems I'm unlikely to scrape through undetected, should have thought about it earlier but at least I have a couple of avenues to pursue now. New cans, cats back in etc. or just try and kid on I have a red line at 3,000 wink

They are only allowed certain amount of days a year to hold noisy events which they use for the festival of speed etc, I was black flaged there a couple of years ago in my Cerbera when one of the track day silencers feel off, took me thre attempts to get through static tests as it had sports exhausts, they have noise meters around the track, so make sure before you go to get a noise test done or you will not be allowed on track

Why is that though they have hardly any neighbours and the constant din of aeroplane engine noise.

It has something to do with the local council as far as I remember, and I think they monitor the noise levels when they have track days as well

I was recently (and quite rightly) asked to leave bruntingthorpe with a highly antisocial peak of 118 db. Mines a Tuscan 1 with decat pipes and carbon cans. It was only a small part of my day so thought I'd give it a go... Inevitable really!

It's the f****ing NIMBYs living in what is quite an affluent area. Some people don't want to recognise the business and prestige that a circuit such as Goodwood brings to the area.

There is certainly one fixed dB meter at the chicane that signals back to the council offices in Chichester, and I think another meter - likely on the exit of a corner, outfield.

Yes I remember now thats what they told me when I got black flagged, I used to skydive and the numb nutz living next door to the airfields used to complain about the noise of the aircraft makes me laugh most of the airfields today was WW2 airfields that helped save us, then they move next to an airfield and complain about the noise, I wonder if the same people would complain if they lived next to the M1

I just don't get what's up with my Tuscan. It's a red rose so afaik has the larger bore, it's decatted and has Ccc,s which are approx 85% sleeved....

It did 94.5 db at 4000rpm the other day...... And before the new cans was around the same. The cats are just the normal cats with the innards removed so god Knows why it's so quiet.

Someone did say to me that there may be something blocking or restricting flow in the exhaust making it quieter but the car performs really well and is working as it should.

On tick over its really quiet, its only when you hit about 5k it starts screaming, I can still hear the induction too.

So what's going on then? Why so quiet when others are silly loud? (I actually quiet like it btw but wouldn't mind a little extra volume).

I booked into a Goodwood track-day a couple of years back but had a nagging doubt I would have issues. I therefore popped down a few months in advance to get things tested informally, and am glad I did - failed miserably ahead of a 105db day, and I have a standard car with Carbon cans (no de-cats). The tester mentioned to me that "I knew you would fail as soon as I heard you go through the tunnel"!

The days of scraping through by saying it red lines at 5000 also appears to be over. At Snetterton on Tuesday, the tester didn't ask what it red lined at, but consulted a book with rev limits in it and that showed 8000 for a Tuscan. After politely telling him that was probably for a Tuscan racer and a road car was 7000, he wouldn't have it and made me rev it to 6000. Just got through the 105db limit with a catted standard exhaust.

Jeez 6k rpm getting close(ish) to the limit. Old folklore used to dictate that you avoided really high reving of the engine unloaded.

Id possibly write to the organiser (was it club msv) and letthem know about this.
