Simon,
I'd guess that if the compressor is on the engine, the car did have aircon at some stage.

I've never fitted a system, but you'd need a condenser radiator (usually in front of engine coolant rad') the trinary switch (front RH side of car by bonnet bolt) and the evaporator radiator/cooling matrix (in the outside 'hump' under scuttle panel).

Of course you would need the pipework connecting all the components above and the associated electrical connections/loom, plus the air ducting.

It could be that the engine in this car was a replacement from another, that did have an a/c system...I'm guessing.

You'd also need the drier that the trinary switch is in, and to check its got the right ecu for the aircon. Someone on here did retro fit it all last year, so could do a search if it works.

It looks like you are missing everything bar the compressor. The pic you've shown is of the heater matrix connections. The aircon bits are in the other side like this.

The blue light coming on doesn't mean anything as all cars, whether fitted with aircon originally or not, do this.

I haven't used my aircon in the last few years as it doesn't work!! I tend to wind the windows down or take the roof off if its sunny!!
Any tips on changing the trinery switch on a mark 2? looks to be in an awful place to get to.
